A dairy-free strawberry smoothie made without milk and perfect for kids! This strawberry fig smoothie is made with zero processed sugars and minimal ingredients. Banana-free but loaded with healthy ingredients.

It's light, creamy, and deliciously refreshing. It makes a tasty snack bursting with berry flavor.

Strawberry smoothie in a glass with chia seeds on top and a strawberry on the glass.

Made with fresh or frozen strawberries this strawberry smoothie comes out filling but refreshing.

It's bursting with nutrients, and can easily be amped up in protein. I love creating well-balanced smoothies because they're such an EASY addition to hectic days. And this fig smoothie is no exception.

    Ingredients You'll Need

Frozen Strawberries: fresh or frozen strawberries will work but frozen ones will result in a thicker, more refreshing texture. Fresh strawberries will create a smoother but thinner smoothie.

Figs: this smoothie is naturally sweetened with figs! This makes it ideal when trying to scale back on excess processed sugars (learn the best way to cut sugar here).

Sunflower seed butter: any nut butter will work for the smoothie but using sunflower seed butter gets in a different kind of fat and helps keep the smoothie school safe.

Dairy-free yogurt: the kind of yogurt you choose will affect the flavor of the smoothie (learn more below). Opt for plain yogurt to keep sugars to a minimum.

Chia seeds: these little seeds are so potent they're one I think that all kids should have in their diets.

Collagen powder: the perfect addition to the strawberry smoothie if you want to make it more balanced and amp up the protein (learn more about the benefits of a high protein diet). Collagen is a natural protein source perfect for kids and adults alike.

    How To Make It

Fresh strawberries in a red measuring cup being poured into a blender
Almond milk being added to a blender with yogurt, ice and chia seeds

Step 1: Add the strawberries to a high-powered blender.

Step 2: Add in the remaining ingredients and process until smooth.

    Important Teaching Tips

To keep the smoothie pink, strawberries or raspberries work. If you're going to use frozen strawberries you may need to add a splash of easy homemade hemp milk or water to help it out a bit.

The strawberry smoothie works with dairy-free Greek Yogurt which also gives it a bit of a protein boost. However, it also works with coconut yogurt or cashew yogurt. Use whatever you have.

Know that using a coconut or cashew-based yogurt will result in a thinner consistency.

While vanilla yogurt works, it's just as easy to use plain yogurt and sweeten the smoothie yourself naturally.

How To Make This Strawberry Smoothie Without Milk A Post-Workout Shake

If you really want to boost the protein of the strawberry smoothie recipe (say if you're using is post-workout or as a breakfast smoothie) you can definitely add a scoop of your favorite clean protein powder.

Know that the protein powder you choose will alter the flavor and consistency of the smoothie and you may need to add a splash of almond milk (learn more about choosing a protein powder).

Likewise, you could also add collagen powder to the strawberry smoothie.

Collagen is a beneficial part of bone broth and is wonderful for your hair, skin, and nails. Learn more about collagen powder and bone broth and why you want to boost your intake.

Similarly, collagen powder is odorless and flavorless. Plus, if ethically sourced one of the purest forms of protein you can give to your kids! I grab my collagen from Perfect Supplements and use code mamabear10 to save some money.

Frequently Asked Questions About Yogurt Smoothies

Is it healthy to put yogurt in a smoothie?

Adding yogurt to a smoothie is wonderful! Yogurt is loaded with probiotics which help soothe the gut. It also helps make a creamier smoothie when mixed with frozen fruit. Choose your yogurt based on your own personal needs (Greek yogurt, vegan, etc) and opt for plain yogurt to scale back on sugar.

What type of yogurt is best for a strawberry smoothie?

Greek yogurt is the best option for smoothies because it blends into a creamy consistency. It's thicker than normal yogurt which makes the smoothie seem more indulgent as well as it ups the protein intake a bit.

I one of those people who can't tolerate chia but the rest of it sounds very yummy. I never thought of dried figs in a smoothie.

Ah really!? I love chia! I would just sub with flax then- you still get healthy fats and it won't change the consistency much 🙂
