Is there anything better than the delicate blend of fueling your body and indulging your sweet tooth? As a Certified Nutrition Coach, I think it’s far easier to indulge your craving with something healthy than it is to try to avoid it altogether. It’s the premise behind my Strong and Sweet Protein Guide.
And this cookie dough smoothie bowl is exactly that. Thick and sweet with chunks of 5-minute cookie dough all with 31 grams of protein. It’s a delicious way to increase your protein intake and fuel up after a wickedly awesome workout.
Why You'll Love This Recipe
Easy to make: The base of the cookie dough smoothie bowl only has 5 ingredients, and the no-bake balls come together with just 3 ingredients.
Versatile: There are so many ways to adjust the flavor of this protein smoothie to make it more dessert-like or to curb a specific craving.
Healthy: The protein shake is dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan as-is. It can be made paleo or grain-free though depending on your protein powder.
Ingredients and Substitutions
The ingredients for the cookie dough protein shake are pretty straightforward. Obviously, any nut butter will work so use what you have on hand. A higher quality vanilla extract will give it a better taste.
I use a vegan protein powder for this recipe (learn more about choosing protein powders) but know that the kind you choose will affect the taste and texture of the smoothie bowl.
You can make the recipe paleo-approved by using collagen powder instead but you might want to add a date or some honey to replace the sweetness.

Expert Tips To
Roll the balls of cookie dough first and pop them in the fridge or freezer while you make the smoothie.
Frozen bananas are one of the hacks to thick smoothies. If you’re using fresh bananas the texture won’t be the same.
Only add as much water as needed and add it in one tablespoon at a time. This way you keep the thick texture of the smoothie bowl. Use a tamper as needed.
How To Make The Smoothie Bowl
Step 1: Combine the ingredients in a powdered blender.
Step 2: Blend until smooth and pour into a bowl.

Step 3: Top with the cookie dough balls and other deliciousness.

How To Store It
Smoothies are always best enjoyed fresh. Otherwise, they lose their texture.
The cookie dough balls though can be made in advance and stored in the fridge or freezer to enjoy later. Store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or the freezer for two months.
Flavor Variations
Below are a few fun ways to adjust the cookie dough smoothie to create something new.
Protein powder: I use plain vanilla but opting for a chocolate or cookie dough protein powder would make a tasty treat.
Toppings: Drizzle on some dairy-free caramel sauce, add some toasted pecans, and sprinkle chocolate chips if you want to make this into a dessert bowl.
Fruit base: You can use frozen mangos in place of bananas, but the smoothie bowl won’t have the same cookie dough taste.
More protein: Add some collagen powder to the cookie dough balls to amp it up even more.
