About Fit as a Mama Bear

Mom and kids in the gym.

    Hi, I'm Shelby!

A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), certified Nutrition Coach, mom of three.. and unapologetic chocolate lover!

For more than 14 years, I've helped busy moms build strength at home and fuel their bodies with practical, high-protein recipes that fit real life, not perfect life.

What to Expect From Fit as a Mama Bear:

✔ Beginner-friendly strength workouts to do at home

    ✔ Gluten-free family meals

    ✔ Dairy- free protein snacks

    ✔ Home workout tips

    ✔ Practical nutrition

I strive to help make healthy, high-protein food and strength training at home practical for moms so that they can increase energy, keep up with kids, and feel confident.

    What To Check Out First

    • Four protein pancakes stacked on a white plate topped with coconut whipped cream and blueberries.
      3 Ingredient Protein Pancakes
    • Protein apple crumble with oat topped in a single serve ramekin on top of a red linen.
      Protein Apple Crumble [Single Serve]
    • Woman in blue pants and black shirt on all fours performing a tricep extension with a dumbbell and text over top of the image.
4 Day Female Workout Plan [PDF]
    • A scoop of protein being placed into a cup.

    My Philosophy

     I don't believe moms need:

    • Two-hour workouts
    • Meal plans that take all Sunday
    • Guilt over missing a workout

    I believe moms need:

    • strength that makes everyday life easier
    • protein that fits busy schedules
    • simple routines they can actually stick with
    • flexibility instead of perfection

    My Personal Journey

Once upon a time, I was a fast food-loving, chain-smoking restaurant manager with zero clue about nutrition or fitness. There was no dramatic “aha” moment, just small shifts that eventually led me here.

I started working out before I had kids, but postpartum? That was a whole new world. I learned quickly that being strong mattered way more than being in a calorie deficit, and that food wasn’t just fuel, it was function.

After my second pregnancy, I ditched dairy and gluten (turns out that “hormonal bloating” wasn’t hormonal at all), and I’ve felt better ever since: less pain, less fog, more energy.

By the time baby #3 rolled around, I finally felt like I had a system. Not perfect (what mom’s life is?), but strong, fueled, and more in control.

    Beyond Fitness

    • I am a Harry Potter dork and have read the books... cough cough... six times through. It's my "feel better" book!
    • I am the crazy cat lady in the neighborhood and feed all the strays (I get them fixed too!)
    • I actually don't work out as much for looks any more as I do for mental clarity and to reduce the "crazy overwhelmed and anxious" feeling.

Build Strength Without Living in the Gym

The fitness world is full of conflicting advice, making it hard to know where to start, especially when you're already juggling kids, work, and everything in between.

My goal is to make strength training simple. You'll find realistic home workouts, beginner-friendly fitness tips, and practical advice to help you build strength, boost your energy, and feel confident without spending hours in the gym.
