Chewy, sweet, and festive these high protein baked oats are the perfect recipe for Christmas breakfast. Prep them ahead of time and pop in the oven to bake while you take your time enjoying the morning.
Loaded with 19 grams protein and made without banana, this protein-baked oatmeal is a deliciously festive way to kick off the morning.
Candy canes for breakfast? What kid can say no to that?
These high-protein baked oats can be prepped the night before and cooked in the morning (just like these candy cane overnight oats with protein powder). This means that you get to spend more time enjoying the moment on Christmas and less time in the kitchen!
As a mom, I adore these blended baked oats because they’re simple. But as a Certified Nutrition Coach, I love them because they’re:
- Dairy-free and gluten-free
- Packed with protein (19 grams per serving)
- Loaded with fuel
- The perfect balance between indulgence and health
Ingredients You’ll Need
Though most protein-baked oatmeal recipes will call for bananas, you won’t find them here! These blended oats are sweetened with honey instead.
Rolled oats: make sure that they’re certified gluten-free if you need them to be. Unfortunately, quick oats and steel-cut oats don’t tend to work as well for this recipe.
Egg whites: an added bit of protein but the egg whites also help hold the blended baked oats together.
Collagen powder: the secret in this high protein baked oats! Collagen powder is the cleanest source of protein you can choose!
Baking powder: you want the protein-baked oats to rise but not too much.
Honey: this gives a bit of sweetness to the morning. Though maple syrup will work in its place, it will change the texture slightly.
Peppermint extract: a little bit goes a long way so don’t overdo it!
Hemp milk: any non-dairy milk will work for baked oats. We use homemade hemp milk or almond milk the most though.
Crushed candy canes: candy canes, Christmas sprinkles, or both! Add in your favorite festive choice and watch the kiddos' eyes light up in the morning.

Important Teaching Tips
These high-protein baked oats are made without bananas which means that they’re sweet but not too sweet. Likewise, bananas tend to thicken the oats. These blended baked oats are light but chewy instead of thick or creamy.
Not all the oats will blend when you process them- that’s okay! Just make sure to distribute the mixture evenly so one is not all liquid and the other all oats.
To meal prep the recipe: blend the protein-baked oatmeal ingredients, get them into the silicone molds and mix in your candy canes. Then, pop them in the fridge overnight. In the morning, let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before baking.
Love the recipe but don't want to make it Christmas themed? Opt for regular sprinkled or chocolate chips in place of candy canes!
Topping The Oats
The protein-baked oats without bananas are delicious just as they’re made. However, for Christmas morning we like to top ours with homemade whole30 whipped cream, homemade caramel sauce, drizzled nut butter, or dairy-free chocolate ganache to make it extra special.
And more candy canes of course.

Crucial Products
For this high-protein baked oatmeal recipe, you’ll need collagen powder (not to be confused with protein powder)! This is what gives the baked oats such a high protein hit without adding any protein powder.
Collagen is a beneficial part of bone broth and is wonderful for your hair, skin, and nails. Learn more about collagen and why you may want to boost your intake. However, unlike bone broth, it doesn’t taste like well, bone broth.
Similarly, collagen powder is odorless and flavorless. Plus, if ethically sourced is one of the purest forms of protein you can give to your kids!
I grab my collagen from Perfect Supplements because they source their collagen from pasture-raised (grass-fed) cows. So, I trust it.
Grab some collagen powder and use code mamabear10 to save some money.
Silicone Molds
These protein baked oats are made in individual silicone molds. This means that different molds may cook slightly differently.
These are the molds that I use and we love them because they’re the perfect serving size.

Frequently Asked Questions About Blended Baked Oats
Though whey protein powder may be able to be subbed in for the collagen powder it may alter the texture a bit. Know that vegan protein powder can definitely not be used as it absorbs too much liquid.
If you have leftover baked oatmeal you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge. When you reheat them, do it on the stover and add a bit more milk to them so they don’t dry out. Or, pop the leftovers into a smoothie to make it extra thick!

This is great for Christmas morning. With a bit of meal prep, we have an impressive and nutritious breakfast. And it is not only for Christmas. I can make it for other occasions, and substitute chopped dried fruit and seasonal spices for the candy canes and peppermint.

With alpha-gal syndrome, I cannot consume any mammalian products, so I'm always looking for good sources of protein that work for my food allergy. While regular collagen is out, this seems like it will work with marine collagen (which is safe for us alpha gals). Do you agree? Can't wait to try this!
