Ingredients You’ll Need
With only seven ingredients you probably have everything you need on hand to make this edible brownie batter recipe (so long as you have a well-stocked gluten-free pantry).
Vegan protein powder: each protein powder will result in a slightly different texture for the edible brownie batter (learn more below). I use Genuine Health Fermented Protein the most.
Gluten-free 1:1 baking flour: don’t skip this ingredient even though there isn’t a lot! It gives a much better “brownie” feel to the batter.
Cacao powder: though cocoa powder can be used, cacao comes with so many more health benefits! Learn more about the difference between cacao and cocoa powder.
Dairy-free melted butter: for that classic brownie feel, use butter and not oil. I like to use a vegan butter that doesn’t contain seed oils but that’s my personal preference.
Maple syrup: this gives just a hint of sweetness to the protein brownie batter. Though most people use brown sugar, maple syrup helps keep the edible brownie batter just a bit more whole-food based. Note that some of the sweetness of the batter will depend on how sweet your protein powder is.
Dairy-free yogurt: any brand should work but opt for regular non-dairy yogurt and no Greek style yogurt. The Greek yogurt will be too thick.
Vanilla extract: the more potent and pure the vanilla extract the more potent the flavor in the edible brownie batter.

How To Make It
- In a small bowl, mix the protein powder, baking flour, and cacao powder.
- One by one add in the liquid ingredients and mix until thick and sticky.
- Add in any optional fixings.
- Serve immediately as is or with pretzels or apples to spread.

Important Teaching Tips
The kind of protein powder you choose will make a difference to the texture and flavor of the edible brownie batter (learn more about choosing a protein powder for your goals).
Likewise, this recipe uses vegan protein powder which absorbs a lot of liquid. If you swap to a whey protein, know that the brownie batter won’t be as thick.
Make sure the butter is melted before adding it to the batter so that it mixes evenly.
Any non-dairy yogurt should work for the protein brownie batter. Just don’t use a “Greek-style” yogurt as it’ll be too thick.
As is, the recipe is sweet but not too sweet (and it will depend a bit on your protein powder). If you have a sweet tooth, add in ½ tbs of cane sugar to the mixture.
Cocoa powder works just fine in place of cacao.
Make the edible brownie batter recipe to eat immediately as leftover brownie batter does not store in the fridge (it gets too hard and crusty).
Crucial Products
I’ve used Genuine Healthy Chocolate Protein Powder to make the edible brownie batter.
Genuine Health’s Fermented Vegan Protein Powder is one of my favorites because it helps you truly fuel.
Made with 20 grams of plant-based protein, this vegan protein powder is dairy-free, gluten-free, non-GMO, and certified organic.
But my personal favorite is that this protein is fermented. This normally meals a little less "protein powder bloat" because it helps break down the grains, nuts, and legumes.
This protein powder literally gives you the best of both worlds.

Add-Ins & Fixings
You can use this protein brownie batter for just about anything: movie night, Christmas, and parties. The best part about it is that you can add in anything to make it festive.
A few of our favorite add-ins are:
- 1 tbs mini chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon espresso powder
- 1.5 tbs crushed candy canes
- 1 tbs sprinkles
- Peanut butter chips
When you’re serving the edible brownie batter you can serve it as is, in shot glasses with mini spoons. Or, you can use it as a spread or protein dip with something like pretzels or apples.

Frequently Asked Questions About Edible Brownie Batter
So long as there are no eggs in the brownie batter mixture, it is safe to eat. This protein brownie batter contains only ingredients that you can eat uncooked.
Though you may be able to, this edible brownie batter is best eaten raw. If you cook it, it will most likely turn out very dry as there are not a lot of wet ingredients.
Though you can use a different protein powder, it will alter the texture of the edible brownie batter. Vegan protein powder absorbs a lot of liquid which is what holds this brownie batter protein dip together. Using whey protein will change that.

Hi! Would it work to sub an equal amount of yogurt for the butter? Could I also omit the flour?
fitasamamabear
The yogurt should work for the flour just fine. You can omit the flour and it'll be fine just not as thick! Still delicious though.
