About Me: Fitness, Food, DIY Blogger
… for mamas!
Hi, I’m Shelby, and WELCOME to Fit As A Mama Bear!
I’m a Canadian mama to three beautiful girls (though I’m probably biased), a workout lover, and a classic, though totally lazy, foodie.
In the real world, I’m a certified strength coach and a certified nutrition coach and I have clients from all walks of life (you can check out my training business here) <– fun fact about me: I even used to coach figure competitors!! I’m certified through the following companies:
I strive to help make fitness and healthy cooking practical for busy moms to help them thrive.
If you’re a brand or blogger looking to work with me, here’s more information about me and how we can work together.
About Me & My Personal Journey
What seems like ages ago, I was a restaurant manager, smoker, and fast food junkie. I started my journey to health about ten years ago but it wasn’t a crazy big process. No major “moments” over here.
However, becoming a mama took it to a whole new level. I now live for sweaty workouts, fueling food, and natural living. It’s a role I never thought I’d be in. But it’s a role I love.
Fun About Me Fact Though: While I adore healthy food and creating recipes, I’m super lazy in the kitchen. As a mama to three I don’t have a whole lot of time (you don’t say…) and if you notice, there’s a trend in my recipes: they require very little effort! My recipes focus on health, flavor and simplicity.
Simple keeps you sane <– words to live by.
The struggle of being a busy mom is real. I have a training business, this lovely blog, my podcast and I also do recipe creation for other blogs. Life is chaos, but it works.
This is why I thrive on helping other busy moms find ways to squeeze in workouts, make healthy food practical and all raise healthy kids… without spending hours a day in the gym or kitchen!
What Topics Do I Cover?

I want my daughters to grow up strong, confident, and full of laughter each and every day. But I also wish this for the mamas.

You can head to the top of the page and use the menu to navigate through everything. Or, scroll below to check out some reader favorites!
If you need to reach out to me directly for any reason, I can be reached at fitasamamabear (at) gmail (dot) com — replace with the proper punctuation – I have to write it that way so I don’t get bombarded by spammers!
My biggest goal is helping busy moms stay fit with fast but effective workouts as well as tips for a fit and healthy pregnancy or any other specific goal. I also cover the how and why to train to support mom-life.
I am a firm believer that fitness should be fun! Dreading & despising your workouts won’t get you the results you’re looking for. Instead, experiment with different workouts, laugh, and enjoy the journey – it’s a hard balance so don’t take it too seriously!
There are a lot of resources in the Get Fit section. I also share specific workouts on my youtube channel and I send out free weekly workouts for busy moms. Hopefully, you can find the tips, tricks, and advice you’re looking for but if not… contact me! I truly always love hearing from readers.
Who doesn’t love tasty food? And as a nutrition coach, food is one of my absolute passions! I really do live to eat. But I also believe that food is fuel and thus I aim to create nutritious meals.
You won’t find any processed sugar in my recipes and some of them may push you outside your comfort zone. All of the recipes are dairy-free and gluten-free and many of them paleo or vegan. I have something for every style.
What you will find in this section are tasty and nutritious recipesfull of quality ingredients that are sure to boost your health, your immune system, and your taste buds.
The recipes are geared towards busy moms and kids to keep us all healthy and fueled.
Check out more of the recipes on the menu tab but you should probably begin with snacks, busy moms need snacks.
There are a lot of different ways to approach healthy eating out there. Different diets, restrictions, and suggestions for kids.
My personal goal is to make food fun, healthy, and practical. I want my daughter to grow up enjoying food while at the same time getting the fuel she needs to be an active kid.
In this section, you’ll find tips to transition your household towards healthy eating. Everything from introducing smoothies to toddlers to avoiding juice boxes and what to offer your kids instead.
Over the last few years I’ve worked hard to make some big changes in my household and beauty routine (read about that holistic journey here). And much of that has been making my own DIY products! Partially because of the research I have done regarding harmful ingredients & sensitivities and in another part because I’m Dutch and thus, classically frugal.
While many of our household products are now homemade, I am constantly trying new recipes and ideas. Some of which are epic fails and some glorious successes. Regardless, this section is here to help you make some of your own holistic home changes and hopefully bring out the DIY’er in you.
Being pregnant is kind of its own entity! Especially for a fit mama, that belly can come with some big challenges.
Staying active during pregnancy comes with a host of benefits. However, it’s also a daunting task.
