These DIY Himalayan salt bath bombs are perfect for Valentine's Day! Made with all-natural ingredients, this DIY bath bombs recipe uses Himalayan salt for its pink shimmer instead of a colorant.

Likewise, these pink salt bath bombs also contain magnesium powder so a great way to relax before bed. Whip some up for yourself or give them to friends as a homemade gift.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Valentine's Day, to be honest. Yes, a date night is awesome (and so are heart-shaped cupcakes of course) but the whole day just doesn’t make sense to me.

Hubby and I never really “celebrated” Valentine's Day either. Fun fact: in our house, it’s actually “Walking Dead Day” because normally the mid-season premier always falls on Valentine's Day and TWD is definitely something I celebrate! #zombienerd

But it turns out, that kids love this heart-themed day. And I can understand that. I used to love getting all sorts of goofy cards and candy too!

But confession: I suck at crafts. Like truly suck. I am not the mom who makes homemade Valentines (unless my mom helps!) and my cake or cupcake decorating skills leave something to be desired…

Thus, in place of those subpar qualities, I go with a DIY bath bomb recipe instead!

My Experience With DIY Bath Bomb Recipes

Now, believe it or not, homemade bath bombs have not always been my strength. Furthermore, I failed miserably for about a year.

I couldn't get them to fizz or they would just crumble.

Thus, there’s a finesse to making them sometimes and I outline that in my blog post How & Why To Make Your Own Bath Bombs.

That said, making bath salts are easy and fun too and a wee bit more simple! Here's a fun rose bath salt recipe one I love.

When to use these bath bombs

    • A craft for pre-teens
    • In a sugar-free Easter Basket
    • As a friendly gift

Having a good DIY bath bomb recipe on hand makes for a fun, homemade project for you and the kids.

Have the kids jumps in, help mix and watch the fizz and make whipping up these DIY pink salt bath bombs a fun activity. Similarly, my toddler likes making them (they do fizz so it’s kind of fun!) as much as she likes using them!

    Ingredients

These homemade bath bombs are all natural with no hidden ingredients. Epsom salt is great to help ease muscle aches at the end of the day and baking soda is a key component of a detox bath.

Plus, these DIY bath bombs are magnesium-based which is ideal to help prep the body for sleep.

Magnesium is a component of good sleep. I use Magnesium Powder from Perfect Supplements both in my baths when I take them as well as our kid’s bedtime snack or my nighttime tea.

Magnesium is a mineral we’re often deficient in and it promotes relaxation and removes the “fight or flight” feeling.

Thus, I’ve added it to these DIY shimmer pink bath bombs for sleep to help it do just that.

Lastly, this homemade bath bomb recipe uses no colors or dyes. The shimmer color comes from using pink Himalayan salt. Thus, these are perfect for kids.

And of course, a hot bath is also pretty awesome followed up with body butter!

Furthermore, you can make either minis or large DIY Himalayan salt bath bombs it just depends on what you prefer. We like the mini hearts the best and then we give them out as mini gifts to my daughter's friends.

    Essential Oil Options

With all homemade bath bombs, the scent is completely up to you! I like to use uplifting essential oils like the ones below:

    • orange
    • lemon
    • lime

Though lavender and peppermint are staples for me too. Likewise, these headache remedy bath bombs are a great combination of essential oils as are these stress-relieving bombs.

Keep in mind, when it comes to the dilution rate of essential oils, most people agree that 5% is a good place for adults (and 0.5-1% for kids).

Which is about 10 drops per one tablespoon of carrier oil (this website states you can use up to 20 drops per tablespoon). Here are my DIY bath bombs for kids.

Or, you can go the full natural route and leave out the scent, no one says you need to include essential oils! Especially if giving them out as gifts.

    • Silicone Mold

    How To Make Them

First, in a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients and mix well.

Dry powder ingredients in a green mixing bowl with heart shaped mold beside it and a spray bottle behind it

Then, if using essential oils, combine them into the with hazel.

Add the witch hazel into the large bowl (it will fizz, that’s okay!) and mix until mostly combined. The mixture will look only a bit wet (this is normal.)

Liquid added to a green shaped bowl with powders making them fizz and a silicone heart shaped mold behind the bowl

In the bottom of your molds. Portion out the large pink salt into the bottom (or more fine-grain salt)

Heart shaped mold with large grain pink salt in a bag beside it and being added to the mold

Fill each mold halfway with the bath bomb mixture. Use a spatula to press the mixture firmly down into the mold.

The better you do this, the more they will hold together. Spray a tiny bit of water over the mold (if needed) and press down again to ensure it is all combined and holding.

DIY Himalayan salt bath bombs in a heart shaped mold being pressed with a green spatula and a bowl behind it

Portion out the remaining mixture to fill the molds and repeat the process of pressing down, spraying with water etc.

It’s a fine balance of pressing and spraying water. Do not spray too much or the bombs will lose their fizz. Just a tiny bit to help them hold.

Finally, let sit on the counter for 24 hours to set.

Pop-out of the molds and use!

7 large heart-shaped bombs (mold depending).

    Notes
You do not need both fine and large flake Himalayan salts. One or the other works fine. However. the fine grain on the top gives a shimmer to the top of the bombs whereas the larger flakes give a more textured appearance.

Use any essential oils you like- and customize them for the person using the bombs. Lavender is very calming, citrus blends are very mood-elevating. Use your favorites.
