Most DIY shaving creams use a classic three ingredients to come together. Though this can work, adding some more healing ingredients can help your skin stay soft and give it more nourishment after shaving- though following it up with some 3 ingredient lotion doesn’t hurt.

The remaining ingredients are very straightforward. Know that you can use cornstarch in place of arrowroot powder and that you want regular coconut oil, measured solid- not fractioned coconut oil.

Expert Tips To Make It
When you’re melting everything down, make sure that no water splashes into it. Water in the mixture will cause it to go rancid prematurely.

If you plan to use this shaving cream right in the shower, be careful! The oils in it can make the shower slippery so proceed with caution.
How To Make Homemade Shaving Cream
Step 1: Infuse the calendula oil and strain out the herbs.
Step 2: In a double boiler, melt the shae butter and coconut oil over low to medium heat. Allow it to cool slightly before using a hand mixer and whipping until fluffy.


Step 3: Whip the remaining ingredients until combined.
Step 4: Scrape into a jar and store until you need it.


How To Store It
The DIY shaving cream can be stored for up to a month of more in cool dark areas.
When you use it, make sure to use clean, dry hands to portion it out. If you get water into the jar, it won’t last as long.
Variations
You can scent the shaving cream any way you like based on the essential oisl you choose.
For males, opting for a woody or peppermint scent is great. For females, I like a blend of lemon, geranium, and mandarin orange. Mix and match your favorite blends to create the scent you love.

Homemade Shaving Cream With Calendula
Equipment
Ingredients
- ¼ cup Coconut oil measured solid
- ¼ cup Shea butter
- 1 tablespoon Arrowroot powder
- 1 tablespoon Baking soda
- 2 tablespoons Calendula-infused oil
- 2 tablespoons Aloe vera gel
- 10-15 drops Essential oil
Instructions
- Infuse calendula in a carrier oil (like olive or almond oil). Heat gently in a double boiler for a few hours, then strain out the herbs.
- In a double boiler or a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water, melt the shea butter and coconut oil together until fully liquid.
- Allow the mixture to cool slightly. Once it starts to thicken but is still soft, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip it until it becomes light and fluffy.
- Gently add in the aloe vera gel and herbal-infused oil. Mix well until fully combined.
- Add the baking soda and arrowroot powder and mix until combined.
- Stir in your chosen essential oils.
- Store the whipped shaving cream in an airtight container.
