Infuse calendula in a carrier oil (like olive or almond oil). Heat gently in a double boiler for a few hours, then strain out the herbs.
In a double boiler or a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water, melt the shea butter and coconut oil together until fully liquid.
Allow the mixture to cool slightly. Once it starts to thicken but is still soft, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip it until it becomes light and fluffy.
Gently add in the aloe vera gel and herbal-infused oil. Mix well until fully combined.
Add the baking soda and arrowroot powder and mix until combined.
Stir in your chosen essential oils.
Store the whipped shaving cream in an airtight container.
Notes
When you’re melting everything down, make sure that no water splashes into it. Water in the mixture will cause it to go rancid prematurely- learn more about the do's and don't of lotions.Any carrier oil can be used to make the infused calendula oil. My favorites are apricot, almond, or jojoba oil. You can do this by using the oven method or a slow cooker. If you plan to use this shaving cream right in the shower, be careful! The oils in it can make the shower slippery so proceed with caution. The DIY shaving cream can be stored for up to a month or more in cool dark areas. When you use it, make sure to use clean, dry hands to portion it out. If you get water into the jar, it won’t last as long.
