Healthy Chocolate Dessert Recipes- A Roundup
If you’ve been around the blog for a while, you’ll have noticed that I’m a chocolate fiend- specifically a chocolate dessert addict! Really and truly I eat chocolate every single day. Let me clarify: I eat healthy chocolate every day…in the form of cacao powder (read about the benefits of cacao powder here)! If you’re chocolate obsessed like me, but want to avoid a ton of empty calories and horrifically nutrition devoid food… you’re in for a treat!
As a nutrition coach, I’ve had a lot of clients come to me crying about giving up their favorite desserts. Their indulgences. Their comfort.
And while you definitely need to make some changes when you have specific goals, it doesn’t mean you should despise what you eat!
Nor should you never indulge again either!
Instead, opt of healthier versions. Focus on real food ingredients (like cacao powder), make them homemade and trust me, they’ll be just as delicious!
Now, fun fact about cacao powder: by itself is slightly bitter. This is because it is chocolate in one of its purest forms and without anything sweet added to it, it’s a bit bitter.
Buuutttt, this means that you get to sweeten it to your liking! Of course you could use a coconut palm sugar or cane sugar for this, however I prefer to take an even more natural approach: dates, bananas, raw honey, pure maple syrup, I use them all.
Combining cacao powder with your sweetener of choice makes everything utterly delicious, mostly healthy and my favorite part: dairy free!
Below is a roundup of a couple of my favorite chocolate recipes. They’re all deceptively healthy and utterly addictive.
These chocolate dessert recipes make tasty desserts or even indulgent snacks. Some of them are great to take to parties and share and others you should most definitely hoard for yourself ?
Chocolate Almond Butter Cups
One of my favorite chocolate dessert recipes because it’s so freaking simple!
Using basic ingredients, this no bake recipe freezes up extremely quick and gives you possibly the best flavor combination ever.
Chocolate Chia Cake
This recipe is from Clever Chef and has two of my favorite words in it: chocolate and cake. And since chia seeds are one of the foods I think everyone should be eating, I’m pretty sure that makes this cake a necessity.
Sea Salt Chocolate Hummus
You may not feel like hummus classifies as a dessert, but I assure you that this recipe from Lemons & Zest does!
Sea salt and chocolate go together perfectly, and a chocolate fruit dip is always a win at a party!
Chocolate PB Banana Nice Cream
Sometimes, you just need a little chocolate ice cream! For comfort, for pregnancy cravings or just because it’s Tuesday.
For me, I like to opt for dairy free ice cream (read a few tips on how to cut dairy here) but I rarely ever keep store bought in the freezer.
I do however, have all the ingredients to make this tasty recipe on hand at all time. This chocolate peanut butter banana nice cream is serious stuff here folks.
Chocolate Turtles- Healthy Ones
There was a time I was obsessed with chocolate turtles. I mean really, they’re an ideal flavor combo! But these healthy ones take the cup on even the traditional ones.
Natural Green Mom killed it with this remake as they’re beyond addictive!
A simple recipe with simple ingredients but a ton of perfection. These easy chocolate dessert cups from Melissa Torio are a great (and mini!) way to satisfy a sweet tooth!
The first time I saw these almond chocolate crepes from I Heart U Mami I drooled on my computer- truth.
They’re a decadent combo, full of flavor and unbelievably light. We’ve made them multiple times for breakfast, snacks or even dessert at girls’ night. I love them.
Healthy Homemade Chocolate Candy Bars
Every so often, I miss the days when I’d go into the store, crab a chocolate bar (or three) and mow down.
While this still works for most people it’s just not my thing. The dairy and sugar overload were hurt my stomach and I never find it worth it.
These candy bars are though!
Chewy, sticky, chocolate deliciousness is what they are. Perfection.
Bliss balls are a staple around here. They’re beyond simple but they also dress up really nicely! This means that you can make them look super pretty in a pinch for a party and everyone will devour them.
This recipe from Debra Klein nails them and my hubby’s friends loved em (and the guys are by no means healthy eaters haha!)
Clementine Paleo Cake
Are you a lover of the classic chocolate smashed orange? This one is for you.
While I’m not typically a fan of chocolate and orange I do rather love this chocolate dessert cake from What Grandma Ate! I’m assuming because it’s full of real food and deliciousness ?
Don’t forget to pin these healthy chocolate dessert recipes!
If you’re a chocolate addict, hit up the rest of my blog, because I am most definitely obsessed. Chocolate dessert recipes are my favorite kind because I was long ago convinced that chocolate is a life necessity. That said, quality desserts filled with real food-based ingredients, cacao powder make the best kind of recipe because they’re both healthy and addictive! Enjoy, indulge and only share if you have to!
