One of my favorite tricks with SMASH clients is encouraging them to prep simple protein recipes during the week, like these honey garlic steak bites in crockpot or healthy chicken bites. Having a ready-to-go protein option makes it much easier to increase their protein intake without adding extra cooking time.
These steak bites are incredibly versatile, too. You can add them to a beet noodle stir fry, a soba noodle bowl, wraps, or even use them in a few of the meals from the Busy moms Cookbook. Keeping cooked meat like this in the fridge is honestly a game-changer when you need something quick but still nourishing.

💭Why You'll Love This Recipe
Effortless: You only need four ingredients and almost no kitchen time for this recipe(similar to these 4-ingredient, dairy-free protein pancakes) as it’s cooked all in the slow cooker.
Healthy: The steak bites are dairy-free, gluten-free, paleo, and keto-friendly, making them a great way to boost your protein.
Texture: Since the steak bites cook for so long in the sauce, the result is ultra-tender, almost melt-in-your-mouth bites.
Ingredients and Substitutions

Below is a quick shot of the ingredients but again, there are just four. You most likely have everything you need already, just like with this 5-ingredient crockpot chicken.
- Steak: Any beef will work here, but we actually use stewing beef the most, as the bites come out ultra tender.
- Garlic: You can add more garlic if you want to or use garlic powder.
- Soy sauce: If you need the recipe to be paleo-friendly, opt for coconut aminos in place of soy sauce. If not, just make sure to use gluten-free soy sauce or tamari.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Flavor Variations
If you wish to change the flavor of the slow cooker steak bites, it’s pretty simple.
Spicy: I like adding some red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper to the honey garlic sauce, especially if I'm not serving them to kids.
Teriyaki: You can go with more of a teriyaki sauce and add sesame oil and dried ginger. Or, whip up this gluten-free teriyaki sauce recipe and pour it over the steak.
How To Make Slow Cooker Garlic Steak Bites

Step 1: Whisk together the soy sauce, garlic, and honey in a slow cooker.

Step 2: Add the steak bites in and toss to coat them.

Step 3: Cook on low for 5-6 hours.

Step 4: Enjoy as-is or as part of a larger meal.
Expert Tips To Make It
Confirm your soy sauce is gluten-free if you need to. It’s one of the hidden sources of gluten. Tamari or coconut aminos work in place of the regular stuff.
If you can stir the steak bites throughout their cooking, do it. It will result in juicer bites. However, you don’t need to.
How To Store Them
Store leftover steak bites once cool in an airtight container in the fridge. They’ll stay fresh for 3-4 days. You can enjoy them chilled, or you can reheat them on the stove or microwave until warmed through.
You can freeze cooked steak bites, too. To do this, let them cool fully and place the steak as well as any additional sauces left in the slow cooker in a plastic bag or freezer-safe container. Store them for up to 2 months. To enjoy them, let them thaw in the fridge overnight.
Serving Them
The slow cooker honey garlic steak bites are super versatile. Below are a few ways we enjoy them:
- As a dinner mixed into gluten-free pasta, served with root vegetable medley, or made into wraps, or replacing chicken in a healthy chicken fajita bowl.
- As a holiday appetizer with my gluten-free chicken wings recipe dipped into your favorite sauce or paired with keto deviled eggs.
- Or, for myself, I just enjoy them out of the fridge as an easy, protein snack.
Slow Cooker Steak Bites FAQs
Sure! Any kind of steak will work for the bites; it’s just that some have a more tender texture than others. We primarily use stewing beef or top sirloin.
Steak bites usually become tough if they’re overcooked or left in the slow cooker too long. Because the beef pieces are small, they cook faster than large cuts and can dry out if heated for too many hours.
