Made with a blend of seeds and dried fruit, this nut-free granola makes the perfect school-safe snack! This healthy granola recipe uses creamed honey and dried fruit for sweetness while the seeds give it a dose of plant-based protein. On top of that, it’s also grain-free!

two white ramekins stacked and the top one full of nut-free granola with more granola around the bowls and on a baking tray behind them

Use this nut-free granola for a healthy snack, in place of cereal in the morning, or as grab-and-go fuel out of the fridge.

This nut-free granola recipe comes out of the oven soft and delicate but turns into an indulgence once cooled.

Though it's made with just a  blend of seeds, it has a hint of comforting sweetness from the honey.

"This granola came out great! I just love the touch of vanilla with the dried fruit, and it was nice and hearty with all those wonderful seeds. So much better than anything you'd buy!" - Amanda

If you want to add some healthy fats to your diet, this homemade granola is the way to do it! You'll love the recipe because it's:

    • Easy to make
    • Dairy-free, gluten-free, grain-free, nut-free
    • Versatile (can be used for everything!)
    • 4g of plant-based protein
    • School safe

    Ingredients You’ll Need

If you have a well-stocked gluten-free pantry you probably already have all the ingredients you need for this homemade nut-free granola recipe!

However, while most granola recipes rely on rolled oats, you won't find them here! If that's your jam, check out these granola clusters instead. In place of oats, this granola is gluten-free and grain-free.

Pumpkin & sunflower seeds: make sure to use unsalted seeds that haven’t been roasted already.

Hemp Hearts: loaded with nutrients and plant-based protein these seeds are an easy nutrient boost for any recipe.

Shredded coconut: for this gluten-free recipe make sure to use unsweetened coconut that’s shredded and not in large flakes so that it blends into the granola better.

Chia seeds: one of the three foods that I think should be in everyone’s diet! These seeds are POTENT with benefits.

Sunbutter: this is what replaces nut butter in this granola recipe. It’s not as sweet but leaves the granola with a hearty feel.

Dried fruit: any dried fruits will work however we love to use dried blueberries and cherries best.

Creamed honey: the creamed honey gives this nut-free recipe the best flavor. though maple syrup can work it will also affect the cooking time.

Multiple ingredients like pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, honey, hemp hearts and more nut-free items for homemade granola in measuring cups with text labels over top.

    How To Make Nut-Free Granola

    1. Combine all the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
    2. Melt the wet ingredients and mix them together.
    3. Add the wet into the dry and mix until everything looks somewhat coated.
    4. Dump the granola mixture onto a lined tray and use a spatula to press it down evenly.
    5. Bake for30 minutes stirring the granola once halfway through. To do this simply mix it around and then repat flat.
    6. Remove from the oven and let cool fully before storing.

Portion onto a baking tray and press flat.
A baking tray with grain-free granola on parchment paper just out of the oven with a wooden spoon and blue linen behind it
Bake and let cool on the tray.

    Important Teaching Tips

When you stir the granola halfway through, make sure to re-flatten it so that it cooks evenly.

The granola is not fully cooked when you pull it out of the oven. It will still be really crumbly and won’t hold together at all. Let it cool fully before moving it off the tray.

In a pinch, extra pumpkin seeds can be subbed for sunflower seeds and vice versa. Just like maple syrup can be used but may affect how the granola recipe holds together.

Store the granola in airtight containers in the fridge.

How To Use The Homemade Nut-Free Granola:

    • As a smoothie topper
    • On top of a dairy-free yogurt parfait or cookie dough overnight oats
    • As a cereal with some homemade hemp milk
    • On top of chocolate collagen pudding
    • In a snack on its own with some fruit

Frequently Asked Questions About Homemade Granola

How long does granola last for?

On the counter in a sealed container, gluten-free granola will last 5-7 days. In the fridge, clusters will last 2-3 weeks in a sealed container.

    What makes granola clump together?

The stickier your granola mixture is from nut butter and sweetener (in this case honey) the better the granola will hold together. The sugar in the honey hardens once it’s cooked and that holds the clusters together. Because there isn’t much honey used in this recipe, the granola will be more like cereal and not as much in “clusters”.

I love this idea! I like nuts, but large amounts of nuts can be very heavy to digest. This version of granola is easier on the tummy in the morning.
