Boost your focus and get energized to rock your day with this healthy, green tea smoothie guaranteed to perk you up.

Banana matcha smoothie in a glass with red straws on a checkered wooden currint board.

Need to step up your game when it comes to busy mornings? If you’re looking for more energy, more fuel, and an easier breakfast choice, this is it!

This matcha banana smoothie is a great way to use up the leftover banana sitting on your counter and give you a kickstart to your day as it's PACKED with protein. Learn more about the benefits of a high protein diet and why you want to amp it up!

It’s a creamy, tart blend of everything good for you.

As a Certified Nutrition Coach, you’ll fall in love with this breakfast smoothie because:

    • It’s made in just 5 minutes
    • Dairy-free, gluten-free, paleo, and whole30
    • Creamy
    • Refreshing
    • LOADED with energy
    • 29g grams of protein

    Ingredients You’ll Need

Banana: for once, it doesn’t matter if you use frozen bananas or not, this banana matcha smoothie will come out creamy either way. And the riper your banana is, the sweeter the smoothie will be!

Avocado: make sure the avocado is also ripe, otherwise it'll end up in little chunks and not smooth.

Coconut milk: a healthy dose of fats and ultimate cream. Use the coconut milk from a can and not anything pre-mixed for the best results.

Collagen powder: there’s nothing like a protein boost to kick off your morning and collagen powder is the cleanest protein you can choose (learn more about collagen powder).

Matcha powder: now, any matcha will technically work, however, Four Sigmatics matcha has a unique twist to SUPERCHARGE your energy and focus (learn more below).

Almond milk: scale back on the sugar and opt for unsweetened almond milk. Or, you can of course use homemade hemp milk in its place.

The CLEANEST Collagen Powder To Thrive

Easy to mix, this collagen powder adds a protein punch to anything you pair it with. Made from pasture-raised (grass-fed) cows there are no pesticides, hormones, or filler agents. Just put collagen protein. Use code mamabear10 to save money on your next order.

How To Make The Banana Matcha Smoothie

It’s pretty simple really! In fact, there are only three steps!

    1. Combine all ingredients into a high-powered blender.
    2. Blend until ultra smooth.
    3. Pour into a jar, add some lime zest if that’s your thing, and enjoy!

    Step By Step Photos

    Important Teaching Tips

When I use this matcha protein shake in the morning, I like to add some lime zest to it to really wake me up. But this is totally optional!

This copycat Starbucks matcha latte is always a fun wake-me up.

Frozen banana will work for the smoothie and will make it refreshing and thicker. However, the banana on your counter works as well.

Want to switch up the flavors? Replace the banana with mangos and you’ll have an energizing, tropical boost (learn more about how to build a smoothie)

If you want a more indulgent feel, add in half a teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Oat milk, almond milk, or hemp milk all work as the liquid base in the banana matcha smoothie.

    Crucial Products

The kind of matcha powder you choose matters (learn more about the benefits of matcha). This is why I opt for Four Sigmatics Matcha Powder because not only does it contain the base energy from the matcha green tea but it also has a hint of lion's mane!

Lion's mane is technically a type of mushroom but its biggest perk is that it gives you almost instant focus and even more energy than the normal coffee or matcha hit.

This is why I like to use this matcha banana smoothie as a breakfast replacement.

All the ease of a smoothie and all the energy of lions mane!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make this banana matcha smoothie ahead of time?

Though the matcha banana smoothie tastes best freshly made, it can definitely be made in advance. Just store it in an airtight mason jar and make sure to give it a good shake before consuming. The shake will be a little less thick if made ahead of time but still delicious.

Does matcha powder taste good with bananas?

The reason that matcha is commonly paired with bananas is that on its own it’s not very sweet. The bananas in the smoothie help give it a more palatable flavor while still reaping the energy and antioxidant benefits.

Can this banana matcha smoothie be a healthy breakfast?

Because the matcha smoothie is loaded with protein as well as energy, it makes for a great addition or replacement of a healthy breakfast.

I honestly keep ice cubes and mashed up/sealed avocado in my freezer just so I can make this whenever the craving strikes (which is often!). It's been a great help in my transition away from a bad coffee habit.

I swapped out the coconut milk for oat milk and it worked perfectly! Still creamy and delicious, but with a slightly different flavor profile. Love that this recipe is so customizable.
