Boost your immune system with this gut-healing smoothie recipe. Made in just five minutes, this healthy chocolate smoothie contains bone broth powder to improve gut health. It’s a light, almost fluffy smoothie recipe and one of the best ways to sneak nutrients into toddlers!

Chocolate gut-healing chocolate smoothie in a glass with toddler hands holding it. this …

A sneaky way to boost your healthy gut bacteria, this gut-healing chocolate smoothie is a hit with both moms and kids.

Made with only five ingredients this smoothie recipe:

  • Boosts the immune system.
  • Helps you recover faster from colds.
  • Improves digestion.
  • Supports joint health.
  • Is toddler approved?

This chocolate smoothie contains a secret ingredient: bone broth powder! This miracle powder helps all of the above and more.

Plus, the powder makes it an easy way to reap these benefits in kids.

Gut Healing Smoothie Ingredients You'll Need

This gut health smoothie requires few ingredients. However, there is a secret ingredient you'll need to have on hand!

Frozen banana: the banana helps sweeten this healthy gut smoothie and using a frozen banana will give it a creamier texture.

Date: because the secret ingredient isn't overly sweet, adding in a natural sugar source makes the smoothie more enjoyable.

Cacao powder: different than cocoa powder (learn the differences), cacao powder is loaded with raw, immune-boosting ingredients.

Plant-based milk: any milk will work for this smoothie. However, I tend to use homemade, creamy hemp milk the most.

Bone Broth Powder: the secret ingredient that takes this healthy gut smoothie from a regular chocolate indulgence to a powerhouse! Learn more about bone broth powder below and then grab some from Perfect Supplements.

Is Bone Broth Good For You?

Yes. and then some!

Bone broth is one of the three foods I recommend every toddler have in their diet.

This is because it is just so healing. This makes it a crucial element when it comes to raising healthy kids (learn more about how to boost kids' health).

Its biggest perk is that it helps heal the gut and thus boosts the immune system (similar to fermented foods like dill pickle sauerkraut). However, the quality of the bone broth matters (see below)

Choosing A Bone Broth Powder

While bone broth itself is amazing for you, it can be time-consuming to make. On the other hand, bone broth powder is a quick fix with all the benefits of bone broth but none of the time commitment.

Learn more about what powdered bone broth is and why you want to stock up!

Bone broth powder can be used any way the broth can (for soup and stews, to boil rice, to sip n when sick) as well as in this chocolate smoothie!

However, when choosing a powder, you really want to focus on quality. Since you are consuming the nutrients from the bones of the animal, the health of that animal matters.

This is why I opt for Perfect Supplements Bone Broth Powder. Not only is Perfect Supplements a brand I’ve trusted for other items (like magnesium powder, collagen, etc) but they’re powder:

  • Is 100% USDA Organic
  •  Is Non-GMO
  • Contains Type I, II, and III Collagen
  • Just 6% of Your RDA of Sodium
  • Is MSG Free
  • Is Glyphosate Free
  • Contains no toxic herbicides/pesticides.

Enjoy!

Texture Of The Chocolate Smoothie

The other reason I specifically use Perfect Supplements Bone Broth Powder for this smoothie is that it helps improve the texture!

While you can use other powders (Organika is also a great brand), Perfect Supplements is the only one I’ve tried that “expands” when it’s blended. This makes the chocolate smoothie fluffy, light, and much more like a milkshake than anything else.

And it’s this texture that makes this bone broth smoothie such a hit with kids!

Adding To The Smoothie

This chocolate smoothie is healthy, dairy-free, gluten-free, healing, and delicious all on its own! It's also great for digestive health.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t add on to it.

Learn more about building a healthy smoothie and the best add-ins and choose our favorites. Furthermore, you can also add in other superfoods too!

Some tasty additions are:

  • Coconut milk
  • Flax meal
  • Avocados
  • Almond butter

Most of these also give a great boost of healthy fats!

Important Teaching Tips

Make sure to use frozen banana as that’s what makes the gut-healing smoothie creamy and ice cream-like.

The smoothie will vary in taste and texture depending on which bone broth powder powder you use. This is why I only recommend Perfect Supplements Bone Broth Powder. You can use code mamabear10 to save some money.

You can top the smoothie with any of your favorites (coconut whip, homemade granola, etc) depending on what you want the smoothie for.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gut-Healing Smoothies

Are smoothies good for gut health?

Like any other food, it’s not the smoothie that’s healthy it’s the ingredients. Making sure that your smoothie has quality ingredients as well as a balance of healthy fats and proteins is what will make a healthy smoothie that promotes digestive health.

Likewise, adding in some gut health superfoods will help too! This chocolate smoothie is healthy because of the bone broth powder which provides all the gut boost you need.

In addition, the bone broth powder doubles as a protein source to stabilize the sugar release of the bananas.

What does bone broth powder do?

Bone broth powder helps boost the immune system and improves gut health the same way homemade bone broth would. It's loaded with protein and can help improve digestive health, joint health, and of course your hair/skin/nails.
