During pregnancy, you know you’re supposed to increase your protein, but sometimes even the thought of chicken is a hard no. I’ve been there. With all three of my pregnancies, meat was completely off the table in the first trimester, and I didn’t touch chicken again until about two months postpartum.

Still, as a busy mom, I knew protein was key for staying full and supporting my immune system. If you want to dig deeper, learn more about the benefits of a high protein diet and how to increase your protein intake. In the meantime, easy options like these protein pregnancy smoothies and healthy pregnancy desserts make it much simpler to stay nourished.

    💭Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Nourishing: These cookies aren't just dessert, they're loaded with ingredients that actually support you and babe.

Sweet but not excessive: The cookies are a delicious maple pecan flavor that comes out sweet but not too sweet.

Easy to make: No expecting mom to be on her feet with complicated recipes. These healthy pregnancy cookies are easy to whip up in a pinch and make really thoughtful gifts.

    Ingredients and Substitutions

Multiple ingredients for pregnancy cookies in measuring cups with text labels over top.
    • Almond flour: Gives a necessary boost of healthy fats to pregnancy cookies. Use the flour, though, for the smoothest texture (learn the difference between almond flour and ground almonds).
    • Collagen powder: This is the secret, high-protein ingredient, and is the best thing to consume for your hair, skin, and nails, too! Learn more about natural foods high in collagen, as well as what collagen powder is exactly.
    • Blackstrap molasses: This is ideal for pregnant women because it contains magnesium and B6. It's also packed with iron for pregnancy.
    • Cacao powder is another all-around gem as it’s loaded with calcium and antioxidants. Learn more about the benefits of cacao powder.
    • Peanut butter: Listed in the ingredients, but any nut butter will work. Just make sure to grab a natural blend. We use homemade no oil peanut butter the most.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

    Flavor Variations

Nuts: Instead of pecans, you can add pistachios or hazelnuts to the pregnancy cookies.

Indulgence: If using these for a baby shower, drizzle them with dairy-free chocolate ganache or coconut milk caramel sauce for extra yum.

    How To Make Pregnancy Cookies

Steel bowl with cacao powder, coconut and almond flour on a blue linen and pecans around it.

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350F. In a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients and mix.

Step 4: Bake for 22 minutes and remove from the oven to cool.

    Expert Teaching Tips

Let the protein cookies cool fully before taking them off the cookie sheet as they come out extremely delicate.

The reason these protein pregnancy cookies use collagen powder is that it's the cleanest protein you can find. I get mine from Perfect Supplements because they're a high-quality brand. If you try them, use code mamabear10 to save yourself some money and check out these other indulgent collagen powder recipes.

Thanks to the ingredients, these pregnancy snack cookies are also perfect for munching postpartum when you're trying to stay full, along with no bake lactation cookies and any other healthy breastfeeding snacks, as they're all packed with nutrients.

Store the cookies in an airtight container on the countertop for 1-2 days or in the fridge for 4-6 days.

    • Large mixing bowl
    • Silicone cookie sheet

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup almond flour
    • ¼ cup collagen powder
    • ½ cup shredded coconut unsweetened
    • ⅛ cup cacao powder
    • 1 egg
    • 1 tbs blackstrap molasses
    • ⅛ cup peanut butter
    • 3 tbs maple syrup
    • 2 tbs almond milk
    • ¼ cup pecans chopped

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 350F.
    • In a large mixing bowl. Combine all the dry ingredients and mix.
    • One by one add in the eggs, molasses, peanut butter, maple syrup, and dairy-free milk.
    • Mix until sticky. Add in the pecans and mix again.

    • Bake for 20-22 minutes and remove from the oven to cool fully on the pan.

    Notes

Line the baking sheet with parchment paper or you'll have trouble getting them off.
Let the protein cookies cool fully before taking them off the cookie sheet as they come out extremely delicate.
Store the cookies in an airtight container on the countertop for 1-2 days or in the fridge for 4-6 days.
I used a 1.5-inch trigger point ice cream scoop for the cookies. If using a different size, you may need to adjust the cooking times.
Chocolate chips are a great add in in place of pecans. Likewise, almond butter works in place of peanut butter.
