Keeping a stash of high protein snack recipes in the freezer is a habit I swear by (our favorite being these protein peanut butter cups). It saves me on busy days when a sweet craving hits, or I’m rushing out the door and still need fuel. That’s exactly why this Greek yogurt protein bars recipe has earned a permanent spot in our freezer.
As a coach, I encourage my SMASH Fit For Life clients to aim for at least 100 grams of protein per day (learn more about the benefits of a high protein diet), and snacks like these make that doable outside of meals. These frozen yogurt protein bars are made with dairy-free Greek yogurt and collagen (learn what is collagen powder), are low in carbs, and feel like dessert, which is the entire philosophy behind my Strong and Sweet Protein Guide.

💭Why You'll Love This Recipe
Easy to make: There are only 5 ingredients in the Greek yogurt protein bar recipe, which makes them easy to whip up. All you have to do is mix, pour, and freeze.
Healthy: The bars are naturally dairy-free, gluten-free, high in protein, and low in carbs making them a great choice any time of day.
Versatile: Use them with the kids to cool down in the summer or as a snack for yourself. Swap the flavor for something new or enjoy the classic peanut butter and chocolate. These bars are just SIMPLE.
Ingredients and Substitutions

- Peanut butter: Make sure to use natural peanut butter or homemade peanut butter, so that it mixes a bit easier with the yogurt.
- Greek yogurt: Being dairy-free, I use a vegan Greek yogurt for the recipe (peek the best dairy-free swaps). However, any Greek yogurt that you tolerate will work. Know that the bars were made with a vanilla-flavored yogurt. If you use plain yogurt, you may want to add more sweetener or maple syrup.
- Maple syrup: Know that honey or even a coconut syrup can be used instead.

Flavor Variations
Peanut butter chocolate chip is a classic flavor combination and a staple in my house (as are snickerdoodle protein bars!). However, there are lots of ways to vary these frozen protein bars to create new tastes, just like this chocolate protein bar recipe without peanut butter.
- Yogurt: Use a different flavored yogurt for the base. We love raspberry yogurt for a pop of freshness and use it in this dairy-free yogurt parfait, too.
- Crunch: In place of chocolate chips, try adding toasted pecans to the mix or pistachios. This is delicious for protein ice cream bars too.
- Drizzle: Amp up the indulgence and make these frozen yogurt bars part of a celebration by drizzling them with homemade dairy-free caramel sauce.
- Fruity: Add chopped strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries to the yogurt.

Expert Tips To Make It
You can’t really mess these frozen protein bars up. Learn more about how to make homemade protein bars in general, but know that these ones are pretty simple.
Don’t use non-fat yogurt; it makes the bars icy instead of creamy, and you’ll miss out on the protein.
Take care to smooth the batter down in the loaf pan to remove any air bubbles and make sure that to protein bars are set properly. A silicone loaf pan works best, I find, but a regular one lined with parchment paper is great too!
You’ll want the bars to sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes before you enjoy them. Right out of the freezer, they are completely solid. After sitting for 5 minutes, they’re deliciously refreshing.
How To Store Them
The yogurt protein bars must be stored in the freezer. You can place them in a freezer-safe bag, but make sure to separate each bar by parchment paper as they do freeze together easily.
They’ll stay fresh for up to 3 months. To enjoy them, let them sit on the counter for 5 minutes before biting in.
Frozen Yogurt Protein Bars FAQs
I’m sure you can, but I haven’t tried. Whey protein and collagen tend to be similar in how they absorb when mixed so it should be okay. Vegan protein powder on the other hand, absorbs liquid like crazy so you’d need to scale the amount back.
You can, but it will change the texture of the bars slightly (I would add in a tiny bit more peanut butter), and it will remove a lot of the protein in the bars.
To freeze yogurt without it getting icy, you want to use a Greek-based yogurt. Regular yogurt is too watery, which creates an icy texture when frozen.
