Though I’m usually team coffee all the way (check out this protein coffee fudge and this protein coffee smoothie bowl), there’s something incredibly soothing about swapping espresso for matcha, especially when the weather cools down. This coconut matcha latte has become my go-to when I want a calm, focused energy boost without the jitters. It’s warm, creamy, and has that gentle earthiness that feels like a hug in a mug, almost like my dairy-free maple cinnamon latte.

What sets this version apart is how simple, nourishing, and delicious it is. Sweetened just lightly, made dairy-free with creamy coconut milk, and packed with antioxidants, it’s a perfect afternoon reset for busy days. I’ve even started making a double batch so I can sip one while the kids nap and enjoy the next one iced.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

Easy: There are only 3 main ingredients in this dairy-free matcha latte to keep it ultra-simple to whip up.

Versatile: Though delicious on its own, there are lots of ways to add extra pops of flavor or protein to the latte.

Tasty: It's creamy and with a honey-sweetened taste, the perfect blend.

    Ingredients and Substitutions

Ingredients like honey, coconut milk, and matcha in measuring cups with text labels over top.

You only need three ingredients for this recipe, which makes it ultra simple.

    • Honey: This can be replaced by maple syrup in a pinch or your favorite sugar.
    • Coconut milk: Make sure you use a type of coconut milk in a can and then, only the thick, white cream part. This is what makes the latte extra rich. If you love the coconut flavor, you'll also enjoy these coconut flour sugar cookies.
    • The best matcha powder: Four Sigmatics uses a blend of matcha green tea and lion's mane mushrooms for their blend, and it's POTENT. This is the BEST way to gain energy and focus without the jitters. Adding Lion's Mane into my diet has been a game-changer in so many ways. I use it for this matcha banana smoothie, too.

    Flavor Variations

This matcha latte with coconut milk is sweetened with honey and made frothy with the coconut milk. However, there are lots of ways to dress it up, just like this Chai tea latte.

Cinnamon: If you like to curl up in the fall, add a dash of cinnamon to the matcha latte.

Topping: If you have a milk frother, froth up some coconut milk and almond milk for a frothy add-on. Or whip on some Whole30 whipped cream for maximum indulgence.

Vanilla: Add in half a teaspoon of quality vanilla to really bring out the flavor.

Make it iced: Boil together the matcha powder and boiling water. Whisk until the matcha is dissolved. Then, chill until cold and blend with the remaining ingredients. Pour it over ice.

Coconut milk and matcha powder in a white mug.

Step 1: Combine the coconut milk, honey, and matcha powder in a mug.

Handheld frother in a white mug with a matcha latte in it,

Step 3: Either mix in a blender or use a handheld frother to combine all ingredients until silky.

    Expert Tips

You can adjust the sweetness of the coconut cream matcha latte by adding more honey as per your personal preference.

Add a bump of protein to your latte by blending 1-2 tablespoons of high-quality collagen powder into the mix.

The latte will be hot, so be careful while you're blending if using a highly-powered blender so that no water spurts out.
