💭Why You'll Love This Recipe
Quick to make: Made in just 5-minutes, high-protein fluff makes for a great snack or dessert.
Macros: It's easy to adjust this recipe to fit your macros and taste preferences. If you need it to be lower in carbs, use a whey or beef protein.
Light and fluffy: The reason fluff is so popular is that you get a HUGE serving for relatively small calories.
Ingredients and Substitutions

- Frozen Berries: This can be a combination of berries or just your favorite. Know that using mixed berries or blackberries will result in a darker fluff color, similar to using them in this blueberry protein shake.
- Protein Powder: This recipe uses a vegan protein powder to help achieve its fluffiness. See below for more notes on choosing the best protein for the recipe
- Xanthan Gum: Used as a thickener or stabilizer in most protein fluff recipes. In this case, it helps create an ideal texture for the fluff. While it’s possible to make protein fluff without xanthan gum (like this chocolate fluff recipe), because this one is blended, you need the gum to get the ultimate “fluff” and add more volume.
- Hemp Milk: I use homemade hemp milk the most, but any almond milk works as well.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Flavor Variations
Frozen fruit: Any frozen fruit can work to make easy protein fluff. Berries, frozen cherries, or even mangos are delicious.
Toppings: If you want to make this more of a protein dessert, drizzle dairy-free chocolate glaze on top of the protein fluff or top it with coconut whipped cream.
Crunch: Chopped pecans, chocolate chips, or toasted coconut can bring a tasty texture.
Paleo: To make the fluff recipe paleo-approved, just use a beef isolate protein powder.
How To Make Triple Berry Protein Fluff Recipe

Step 1: Measure all ingredients.

Step 2: Add ingredients to the blender.

Step 3: Process for 3-5 minutes, making sure that everything is combined.

Step 4: If using extra frozen blueberries, chop them up and swirl them through the fluff. Portion into a jar or bowl. Top with any other favorites and eat immediately.
The Best Protein Powder & Tips
The protein powder you choose will affect both the texture and the flavor of the protein powder. Know that if you don't love your protein powder, you'll need to sweeten the recipe more (add 1 tablespoon of honey at a time).
- Originally, this high-protein snack was made with vegan protein powder, which fluffs up immensely.
- If using a fermented protein powder, you'll want to add one extra tablespoon of liquid.
- Vegan protein powder: Fluffs beautifully but can be thicker; add liquid slowly. Learn more about choosing a vegan protein powder for your goal
- Fermented protein powder: Add 1 extra tablespoon of liquid to prevent it from getting too dense.
- Whey protein: Creates a creamier texture but may be slightly less fluffy, so start with less liquid and blend longer.
- Beef protein powder: I use Equip Protein because their flavors rock, and it creates the perfect fluff because it "gums" by nature. You could even bump up the protein with 1-2 more tablespoons.
Whichever protein you use, always start with less liquid and add it slowly as needed. The less liquid in the mix, the fluffier the fluff.
The protein fluff tastes best when eaten immediately. If made with vegan protein and stored in the fridge, it loses its fluffy texture and goes more chunky. With beef protein, it isn't as bad but more like a gelled mousse. With that in mind, it doesn't freeze well either, as it thaws into a mess. So, only make what you plan to enjoy.
Protein Fluff FAQs
Protein fluff will loose it's light and airy texture if too much liquid is added to the mixture or xanthan gum is forgotten. Make sure to only add liquid slowly, as needed, so that you keep the fluffy texture. If it's too runny as you're making it, try adding more protein and a ¼ teaspoon more xanthan to the blender.
Protein fluff can technically be frozen and then whipped. However, it will lose a lot of its consistency and “lightness”. Plus, you’d need to let it thaw a bit before whipping and so it takes longer to make.
Protein fluff is made from a combination of protein powder, xanthan gum, and frozen fruit. The xanthan gum when blended, creates a “fluffy” texture which almost doubles the ingredients in size
Yes! Instead of making a blended protein fluff with frozen fruit, you can make a fluff recipe using just vegan protein powder (as long as it's pea protein-based) to create a cloud-like texture. This is shown in this chocolate protein fluff. This won't work with other proteins.

Notes
- The nutritional breakdown uses a vegan protein powder (Botanica Perfect Protein) and does not include the tablespoon of honey
- If using a fermented protein powder, you'll want to add 1 tablespoon of honey, as it's normally not very sweet.
- If using a beef-based protein powder, you don't need any honey and only need ⅛c of milk. You could bump up the protein by doing ¼ + 2 tablespoons of protein powder.

Joyce says
Where is the sodium coming from, is in the protein powder?
Shelby Stover says
It could be but it could also be from the xanthan gum. Looking it up, 1 tablespoon can contain 1-350mg of sodium depending on brand.

I made this a couple of weekends ago and it was delicious! My eldest son tasted it and was obsessed! He has made it pretty much every day since!
Costing me a fortune in frozen berries, but so much better than those energy drinks he was drinking! Thank you 🙂

Looks delicious and easy to make. I made nettle powder that is also packed with protein and wonder if I could use it as an alternative to your store-bought protein powder.
fitasamamabear says
Hrm, I'm not sure that nettle powder would absorb the way pea protein would so I can't guarantee it'll actually fluff up. If you try let me know though!
Tessa Zundel says
This look so delicious and simple to make! I've been using coconut milk powder in place of protein powder lately since I haven't been able to find my favorite protein powder lately.
Even the name of this is delicious - the kids will love it!

Omg coconut milk powder works for EVERYTHING haha. I actually use it in my coffee as "creamer" sometimes. I have a caramel one on the blog too that's heaven-like 😉
