The Best Things About This Protein Shake
- Made in just five minutes
- 31 grams of protein so perfect for breakfast
- Great for on-the-go days
- Refreshing and energizing flavor (it tastes like key lime pie!)
- Indulgent (just like the dessert!)
Ingredients You'll Need
One of the awesome things about this key lime pie smoothie is that you can make it as indulgent (or not!) as you like).
Fresh lime juice: typically a key lime pie will use key lime juice for its flavor. These limes are smaller than normal and normally a bit more yellow. Whether you choose to use key lime juice is up to you, regular lime juice will work just as well. This also applies for something like a piña colada smoothie too!
Coconut yogurt: this helps keep the key lime pie smoothie super creamy. Any dairy-free yogurt will work but any Greek Yogurt will result in a very thick texture and you may need more liquid.
Vegan protein powder: each protein powder will result in a slightly different consistency and flavor. Pea protein will create a thicker texture and non-pea protein will be thinner.
Spinach: get that lovely green flavor and a dose of nutrients! Frozen spinach leaves blend best into the key lime smoothie as they tend to crystalize.
Gluten-free graham crackers: make the smoothie as indulgent and dessert-like as you wish by adding these in or using something lighter like keto graham crackers with almond flour crust.
Date: adding just a hint of sweetness without added sugar.

Choosing A Protien Powder For The Key Lime Smoothie
This recipe has been made with a variety of protein powders. In fact, it was originally made with whey protein.
When choosing a protein powder make sure to read the ingredients and opt for one that suits your dietary needs and has minimal ingredients.
I personally use Genuine Health for my protein powder. Not only do they have a few healthy additions to their protein powders (it’s fermented, they add healthy fats etc) but it also doesn’t contain any seed oils which have a multitude of health risks but are common in purchased products.
Another great option is Botanica protein powder. It is made solely from whole-food ingredients.
Keep in mind that the protein powder you choose will affect the flavor and the texture of the key lime pie smoothie. Vegan protein powders are made with different protein blends and absorb liquid uniquely.

Important Teaching Tips
If you want to boost the protein of the smoothie and don’t follow a vegan diet, use cottage cheese in place of coconut yogurt.
Fresh lime juice will have the best flavor for the smoothie.
The nutritional values are calculated with one store-bought graham cracker added to the smoothie. However, if you’re looking to scale back carbohydrates, omit that.
The graham crackers you choose as well as the protein powder will affect both the flavor and the texture of this smoothie. You may need to add more water.
You can either buy graham crackers to have on hand or make your own keto graham crackers.
