“This dinner saved me so much time and my whole family ate it up!” - Lynn Polito

Sheet pan meals keep busy nights simple. There’s less clean-up, less effort to prep and you still have all the flavor of a traditional meal.

These sheet pan steak fajitas will soon become one of your weekly staples. As a Certified Nutrition Coach, I love that it’s made with homemade fajita seasoning and uses a blend of fresh veggies- like this sheet pan Hawaiian chicken.

Plus, each family member can customize their plate with their favorite toppings!

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • Dairy-free, gluten-free, msg-free, soy-free
    • On the table in 20 minutes from start to finish
    • Homemade, chili powder fajita seasoning for maximum flavor
    • Multi-purpose meal (great for meal prep!)
    • can be topped with lime juice, cilantro, or cashew sour cream

    Ingredients You’ll Need

One of the best parts about these sheet pan steak fajitas is that so much of is in YOUR hands! Substitutions are simple.

Lean Beef: though flank steak is normally used, I prefer to use top sirloin marinating steak. This makes it quick to cook without sacrificing any flavor.

Fresh veggies: mix and match based on preference but the blend of bell peppers, carrots, and mushrooms gives lots of crunch and variety.

Fajita mix: though you can a pre-made fajita mix, homemade will be much more flavorful and healthier (just like this Five Spice Powder Substitute)! 5 spices are all you need to make this fragrant fajita blend and it’s totally worth it.

Avocado Oil: you only need a tiny bit of oil for the steak fajitas to get the job done. Olive oil is wonderful but I like avocado best because it has such a high heat point.

If you love the fajita flavor, you'll also love this chicken taco skillet! Perfect for busy nights.

How To Make Sheet Pan Steak Fajitas

    1. Prep your meat and bell peppers/veggies by thinly slicing everything.
    2. Broil the steak for 6 minutes.
    3. While the steak of cooking, mix up the fajita seasoning.
    4. Toss the veggies in oil and ¾ of the seasoning.
    5. Place the veggies on the tray and sprinkle the rest of the seasoning over top of the steak mixture
    6. Bake for 8 minutes.
    7. Remove from the oven and assemble your sheet pan steak fajitas with all your favorite toppings and lime wedges on the side!

    Important Teaching Tips

Broiling the beef makes it so that this weeknight dinner comes together much faster. Don’t skip this step!

It also makes it so that when everything is cooking, the veggies stay slightly crunchy and not overcooked.

If you like your veggies softer, turn the oven off and let them sit in the oven for 5 minutes after cooking (or rock this slow cooker beef fajitas version).

Use any tortillas that fit into your diet. I personally use these gluten-free ones or homemade wraps. However, my kids go with traditional wheat wraps.

    Toppings

The best part about sheet pan steak fajitas is setting the table with all the fixings! In addition to the steak fajitas mixture, have any of the following on the table:

    • Chopped tomatoes
    • Avocado or guacamole
    • Kimchi
    • Salsa
    • Cashew sour cream
    • Fresh cilantro
    • Lime wedges

Other Uses For Sheet Pan Fajitas

Though fajitas for dinner is awesome, these steak fajitas are actually amazing for meal prep in general (just like this instant pot corned beef)! If you double the recipe you can use the mix for:

    • Pasta just add it in with noodles
    • Stir fry (sautee with some rice)
    • On top of salads

There is so much more to this recipe than just one meal!

Frequently Asked Questions About Sheet Pan Fajitas

Should you cut steak before cooking sheet pan steak fajitas?

The steak will cook faster if it’s thinly sliced. This makes it so that the sheet pan fajitas are on the table in about 20 minutes.

What cut of steak is used for fajitas?

Traditionally people make skirt steak or flank steak fajitas. However, you can also use top sirloin marinating steak. I prefer to use this over flank steak so that the steak fajitas come out a bit more juicy and tender. Flank steak tends to be a bit grittier.

How do you make beef strips less chewy?

Make sure to thinly cut the steak before cooking. Beef gets chewy when it’s overcooked. Cutting it thinly makes it so that the cooking time is less and the beef stays tender.

    Homemade Fajita Seasoning

Whipping up your own fajita spice is super easy and so much healthier! It's a blend of spices like garlic powder and cumin that you probably already have on hand.

Though you could use a pack of store-bought seasoning, homemade will give the sheet pan fajitas so much more flavor without all the added salt and MSG.
