Step up your snack game with these healthy, store-bought snacks! As a busy mom, homemade snacks are nourishing, cost-effective, and healthy.
However, they're not always practical.
Thus, having a stash of healthy packaged snacks on hand is crucial. They work just as well for busy days as they do for long road trips.
What Are The Healthiest Store-Bought Snacks?
Thankfully there are a lot of options on the market today. However, many store-bought snacks are loaded with sugars and filler.
For myself as a Certified Nutrition Coach, a good rule of thumb when checking out a new snack is to check the label and confirm that sugar is not one of the first three ingredients.
Keeping in mind that sugar comes in many forms (cane sugar, stevia, date paste, coconut sugar, brown rice syrup).
You want a bar with fuel and quality ingredients, not just sweetness. Of course, having activated charcoal on hand while you travel is helpful too in case something doesn't agree with your stomach!
What these travel snacks have in common:
- dairy and gluten-free
- minimal ingredients
- low in processed sugars
- balanced fuel

Top 3 Store-Bought Snack Bars
Out of the list, below are my all-time favorite, healthy pre-packaged snacks. These snack bars provide a ton of fuel in just a few ingredients.
RX Bars
These bars are a staple in my house and I use them as "any-time" bars. Meaning, they're great fuel at any time of the day.
Made from just egg whites, dates, buts and a flavor RX Bars are a great way to stay full.
However, they are a "chewy" bar. Great as a travel snack and older kids but the best for toddlers.
Midday Squares
These taste just like a chocolate bar and contain 12 grams of protein in each bar. They are quite literally a great craving buster!
The downside is that they do have to be refrigerated, or chilled. However, I have personally kept mine in my backpack for two days and it seemed just fine.
Lara Bars
My daughter's favorite! They truly believe that these are a treat.
These bars typically have about two ingredients: dates, nuts, and the flavor of bar. Perfect fuel for kids. They also have a protein option now which provides a healthy snack for mom!
You can grab Lara bars just about anywhere, including Amazon.

When my husband wants snacks - I always tell him to just buy nuts. Ha! I honestly don't trust anything more... He did go out and buy himself protein bars that I am not 100% on board with, but I mean, he's a "growing" boy (he's training to gain muscle) so I guess I can't "smack" him too hard - LOL
fitasamamabear says
Haha nuts are the best way to go! So many pre-made bars are just full of crap though so I hear yah. I like bars with less than five ingredients.. and I like to have all of those ingredients in my cupboard lol
