These dark chocolate peanut butter banana bites are one of those treats I always have stashed in the house. Between juggling kids, work, and workouts, I love having a sweet bite I can pop straight from the freezer, especially one that hits that peanut butter and chocolate craving hard. They’re a summer staple in our house, right up there with these protein popsicles and protein frozen yogurt.
What makes these choco banana bites different is the texture, creamy, crunchy, and cool all at once. While I love a good frozen protein snack like homemade ice cream bars, these feel like dessert without the crash. And since they’re paleo and made with simple ingredients, I feel great sharing them with my kids, too.

💭Why You'll Love This Recipe
Allergy-friendly: Given the minimal ingredients, these chocolate PB banana bites are dairy-free, gluten-free, paleo, and vegan.
No baking: The best kind of gluten-free summer desserts require zero baking and keep you cool.
Bite-sized: Perfect for parties or a simple snack, these bites are pop-in-your-mouth size.
Ingredients Your Need

- Bananas: You want your bananas to be ripe so that they're sweet enough, but not mushy, or they fall apart when being dipped. Basically, they still need to be firm. Use mushy bananas for single-serve banana bread.
- Peanut butter: Natural peanut butter works best, and you need a semi-fresh jar so that it's runny enough to dollop onto the bananas. Almond butter is delicious here as well as a switch-up.
- Chocolate chips: Any chocolate chips can work here. If you need them to be paleo-friendly, use Enjoy Life Chocolate chips. We like to use dark chocolate chips the most.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Flavor Variations
Get creative! After you dip the bananas in the melted chocolate, you can decorate them however you like. I typically just use a flaked sea salt but here are some other ideas.
Sprinkles: Great for summer birthday parties!
Chopped nuts: This adds a fun crunch. We love chopped pecans the most.
Drizzle: Feeling fancy? Drizzle some dairy-free caramel sauce on top to serve at a party.
How To Make Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate Bites

Step 1: Whisk together the almond butter filling and slice the bananas.

Step 2: Make banana sandwiches.

Step 3: Dip the bananas in melted chocolate.
Expert Tips
Any nut or seed butter will work for the banana chocolate peanut butter bites. If you want to make them nut-free, use Sun Butter. However, you want fresh nut butter so that it smears easily.
You want ripe bananas for sweetness, but not too ripe that they're mushy.
It can be hard to spread the almond butter filling on the bananas if they're super ripe. If this is the case, freeze the sliced bananas first (freeze them peeled but whole). Then, slice them from frozen and spread the nut butter.
How To Store Them
Once the bchoco bananas are made, store them in the freezer for up to 3 months. However, wait until they are frozen completely before putting them in a bag or container so you don’t get chocolate everywhere.
To enjoy them, let them sit at room temperature for 2 minutes before enjoying them. They soften ever so slightly. I like to serve them with toothpicks to save sticky hands.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Bites FAQs
When left out, the chocolate frozen banana bites go soft and make one hell of a mess. Since my girls don’t like biting into cold, we find that bringing them out 2-5 minutes before we’re eating them to be the best course of action.
You need to freeze the banana bites before dipping them in chocolate or the creamy peanut butter filling will slide off the bananas.
You can make chocolate peanut butter banana bites nut-free by using sunflower seed butter in place of peanut butter.

I am so happy I found this recipe because I ran out of recipes for my toddler already. Indeed it is easier to put almond butter on the banana when its frozen. Thank you, didn't know that. My toddler gave me 2 thumbs up!
