How To Make Frozen Paleo Chocolate Coated Bananas
Important Teaching Tips
Any nut or seed butter will work for the frozen chocolate-covered bananas. If you want to make them nut-free, use Sun Butter. However, you want fresh nut butter so that it smears easily.
To keep the chocolate coated bananas paleo, you need to use enjoy-life chocolate chips as they're dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and vegan.
You want ripe bananas for sweetness but not too ripe that they're mushy.
It can be hard to spread the almond butter filling on the bananas if they're super ripe. If this is the case, freeze the sliced bananas first (freeze them peeled but whole). Then, slice them from frozen and spread the nut butter.
Storing and Serving
Once the banana bites are made, store them in the freezer. However, wait until they are frozen completely before putting them in a bag or container so you don’t get chocolate everywhere.
To enjoy them, let them sit at room temperature for 2 minutes before enjoying them. They soften ever so slightly. I like to serve them with toothpicks to save sticky hands.
Variations
Get creative! After you dip the bananas in the melted chocolate you can decorate them however you like. I typically just use a flaked sea salt but here are some other ideas.
Chopped nuts: This adds a fun crunch. We love chopped pecans the most.
Sprinkles: Great for summer birthday parties!
Drizzle: Feeling fancy? Drizzle some dairy-free caramel sauce on top to serve at a party.
These are one of those recipes that makes for the perfect summer treat. If you need more ideas, here are some easy summer desserts to fall back on!
Making Them A Protein Snack
You can actually make these paleo chocolate covered bananas higher in protein by adding collagen powder to the almond butter filling.
Similar to these high protein almond butter cups, add 1 tablespoon of collagen powder to the filling (or follow the recipe for the filling in the butter cups).
Collagen helps give you the fuel you need to stay full and boost your protein intake.
FAQs
Yes, they do! When left out, the chocolate frozen banana bites go soft and make one hell of a mess. Since my girls don’t like biting into cold, we find that bringing them out 2-5 minutes before we’re eating them to be the best course of action.

I used Sun Butter to make these nut-free, and they turned out just as delicious. And BTW thank you for the super tip about freezing the sliced bananas first. Easy preparation and less mess.

I am so happy I found this recipe because I ran out of recipes for my toddler already. Indeed it is easier to put almond butter on the banana when its frozen. Thank you, didn't know that. My toddler gave me 2 thumbs up!
