💭Why You'll Love This
Allergy-friendly: Totally dairy-free and gluten-free to make it easy for people with dietary restrictions.

Versatile: You can make this recipe as indulgent or easy as you like by changing toppings. Great for both breakfast and brunch.
Ingredients and Substitutions

Just like this vanilla cinnamon protein French toast, this version requires very few ingredients. Making it a total busy mom win.
- Chocolate protein powder: The protein powder for this recipe works best if it’s vegan, which helps absorb liquid. However, beef protein powder will work as well.
- Yogurt: Grab whatever non-dairy yogurt you have on hand in the fridge. I use coconut yogurt the most. Greek yogurt will work as well, but you may not get as much out of the batter because it’s thicker. However, it will bump up the protein intake.
- Almond milk: Any non-dairy milk will work; we actually use homemade hemp milk the most.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Flavor Variations
You can make this French toast recipe as indulgent (or not) as you like to make it suit your needs that day.
Toppings: Drizzling your chocolate protein French toast with dairy-free chocolate glaze or coconut milk caramel sauce adds extra yum.
Crunch: Having chocolate chips or maple syrup candied pecans on the table for added texture is a fun twist.
Extracts: Almond extract or a hint of vanilla can change the flavor greatly.

Step 4: Top with your favorites.
Important Teaching Tips & Storing
Originally, this protein French toast used Orgain protein powder plus dairy-free yogurt for its protein intake. However, I have since switched to beef protein for health reasons, and Paleo Pro (the cleanest protein I've ever found) works well too.
Vegan protein powder does clump a bit when mixed, if this bugs you then you’ll need to blend the mixture. If not, just whisk as normal and know it won’t hurt you 😉
This protein French toast recipe should work with whey protein powder as it absorbs less liquid (so you’d get three pieces of bread in), but I haven’t tried it. The same goes with this crock pot French toast casserole.
Make this recipe into French toast sticks by slicing the French toast after cooking and letting kiddos (or yourself!) dip it into maple syrup.
How To Store It
Protein French toast is best served fresh. However, you can use it as a meal prep recipe!
To do this, follow the directions to make it and pop it in the fridge in an airtight container for the next day, and then toast it lightly. It comes out pretty yummy, and I do this with the kids for quick breakfasts.
You can also freeze slices once cooled between sheets of parchment paper for up to one month.
Protein Powder French Toast FAQs
Though eggs are already high in protein, you can add in some more by mixing them with protein powder. Know that whey protein powder blends into the eggs a little bit easier where as a vegan protein powder blends better with a handheld mixer or will have a few thicker spots.
Yes! You can actually make French toast in advance for meal prep and then either reheat it briefly in a pan or pop the pieces of bread into a toaster. This makes high protein French toast a really easy breakfast idea for busy mornings.
Because this gluten-free French toast recipe is so high in protein, it makes for a great post-workout meal. The balance of carbs and protein means your body is getting the fuel and energy replenishments it needs.
