💭Why You'll Love This Recipe
Easy to make: Simple steps that don't require blanching or rolling. These blueberry bagels with yogurt are great for beginners in the kitchen (just like this easy gluten-free bagel recipe).
Flavorful: The bagels are every so lightly sweetened with pops of bursting blueberries baked right in.
Texture: Fresh from the oven, they're extremely soft and melt-in-your-mouth-ish. They do firm up a bit as they cool.
Ingredients and Substitutions

The best part of this gluten-free blueberry bagel recipe is that they're easy to whip up. No malted barley flour, bread flour, active dry yeast, or dough hook is needed. In fact, you probably have most of the ingredients on hand!
- Gluten-Free all-purpose flour: Not to be confused with baking flour or even bread flour, gluten-free flour absorbs a lot of liquid and gives these blueberry bagels their chewy texture.
- Dairy-free yogurt: The yogurt helps the texture of the bagels and keeps them from becoming too dense. Any dairy-free yogurt should work, but I haven't tried Greek yogurt yet.
- Quick yeast: We want to keep these gluten-free bagels as simple as possible, so make sure to use dry yeast (not active dry yeast) to keep the prep quick!
- Tiny blueberries: The smaller the blueberries, the more flavor you’ll have as they’ll be distributed better. Tiny, wild blueberries are best, and both fresh and frozen can work. If you have a bag of frozen ones, know that this blueberry protein shake is another great way to use them up!
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Flavor Variations
Fruity: Any fruit can work in the bagels. So, if you want to try your hand at apple cinnamon bagels, it's easily done.
Extract: Adding almond extract or lemon extract can change the flavor of the blueberry bagels easily.
How To Make Gluten-Free Blueberry Bagels

Step 1: Mix together the dry ingredients.

Step 2: Add in the yogurt and honey and mix until they’re sticky.

Step 3: Portion the dough into dough balls on a baking sheet.

Step 4: Use a teaspoon to press a hole in the middle.

Step 5: Brush the egg whites onto the top of the bagels. Bake.
Expert Tips
If you're using frozen blueberries, you may want to toss them in one tablespoon of flour before adding them to the batter. This way, they don't excrete a ton of liquid all at once, which results in a soggy, purple bagel.
When adding the blueberries, mix them until they're just combined. Overmixing can result in gummy bagels and burst berries.
Make sure to press all the way through the bagel dough with the teaspoon. Otherwise, your bagel will “grow over”.
How To Serve Them
These bagels, like most gluten-free bagels (and especially my gluten-free protein bagels), are delicate, so don't go spreading rock-hard butter on them! However, we love them with:
- Nut butter of any sort, but especially homemade, no oil peanut butter
- Chia jam
- Dairy-free scrambled eggshttps://fitasamamabear.com/dairy-free-scrambled-eggs/
- Deli meat to make a yummy sandwich
- Softened dairy-free cream cheese
How To Store Them
These healthy blueberry bagels are soft but chewy right out of the oven and will last 2-3 days on the counter in an airtight container. Make sure they're cooled before storing, though, so no excess moisture seeps in.
Fridge: If stored in the fridge, they will stay fresh up to 5 days, but they do firm up. Let the bagels sit a bit at room temperature before slicing them.
Re-serving: Before enjoying them again, heat them up on low in the oven or in the microwave. Not only will they soften up, but they're easier to top with something like cream cheese when heated or toasted.
Freezing: Do not freeze the gluten-free bagels, as they just don't thaw with quite the same texture.
Gluten-Free Blueberry Bagels FAQs
These bagels haven’t been tested with regular yogurt. However, they should work just fine with yogurt that is 0-2% fat. Though Greek yogurt will boost the protein intake, it is too thick and will alter the texture of the blueberry bagels.
These bagels last 2-3 days on the counter in an airtight container. Though they will last up to a week in the fridge, they do tend to get a bit too firm. Make sure to heat them up before eating them, as that’s when they taste best.
Fresh blueberries work best for the bagel dough as frozen blueberries release more liquid. However, if you toss the frozen blueberries in flour before mixing them, you should be fine.
No, these gluten-free bagels do not need to be boiled. They're made with quick yeast and an egg white brushing before being baked to give them that glossy-ish look without the extra step of boiling.

How come boiling isn't required in this recipe?
fitasamamabear says
Honestly I don't think they'd hold up in boiling and I've never tried. They're amazing "fresh" bagels but not a traditional bagel in that sense. This just keeps it easy for when you're short on time.

Bagels are a special thing every so often for my family, but I never partake because I'm gluten free. I loved making these with my kids and enjoying them together as a family. Thanks for a great recipe!

GF recipes are always a gamble. This one wasn’t my favorite. Our bagels didn’t really rise and remained pretty mushy. It is an easy recipe though and I like the idea since I miss traditional bagels !

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you! These ones aren't my all-time favorite either but they do rise for me. That said, if you want easy, these might be a better option: https://fitasamamabear.com/gluten-free-bagel-recipe/
