Stay on track with your workouts and consistent with your goals with these fitness motivation tips!

These workout motivation tips will help you push through on the days you don't want to show up. Likewise, these fitness motivation tips (and these wicked workout motivation quotes) will help you push through personal barriers and get it done.

If you stay consistent with a fitness program year-round, there comes a time when your motivation dwindles. Similarly, if you're just starting out, finding the desire to get it done all the time can be a big challenge.

Secret Tip: even as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist I'm not always "motivated" to jump into a workout!

However, staying consistent is crucial and even if your goals are not weight loss-based, showing up is important.

    Workout Motivation: Everyone Loses It!

In the course of, LIFE, it’s easy to get distracted from the need to workout- especially if it’s not something you live and breathe.

This is one of the biggest reasons I constantly stress finding an activity you love.

There is no one type of exercise that works for everyone. And finding some form of fitness you enjoy will keep you consistent- and it’s always better when you don’t drag yourself through things you hate!

The biggest fitness motivation tip stems from loving what you do.

Regardless if your goals are learning how to grow glutes, lose weight, or get strong. Not hating the process helps.

For me, I adore working out. I love lifting really heavy weights and I train year-round (strength training, even without the heavy weights comes with mega benefits). Normally I have a strength goal I’m working towards but not always. And the truth is: sometimes I don’t want to workout. Gasp!

It’s true, even the best of the gym die-hards struggle with fitness motivation every once in a while. It’s especially difficult when you’re between specific goals and are simply staying active for fun. While some of us can push through regardless, most of us need a bit of help every so often when it comes to fitness motivation!

But like most things in life, consistency is key. Thus staying motivated and dedicated to your workouts is crucial. So how do you do it? How do you beat the boredom and smash your workouts like a Rockstar?

By implementing some of the workout motivation tips below of course!

Tip#1 - Switch Up Your Routine

As I mentioned above, I adore lifting but sometimes it’s nice to change it up. Actually, one of the things I look forward to most about vacation is rocking some different workouts (here are some great travel workouts)

Unless you’re a dedicated competitor, sometimes increasing your workout motivation is as simple as switching up your routine.

Not just the exercises but the entire system. If you normally love heavy lifting, why not jump into circuits or interval training? Or, if you’re a long-distance runner, why not run sprints for a few weeks?

Switching it up, trying something new, and seeing how your body responds can bring back a lot of fresh excitement.

Even if you don’t have a hard goal in mind, it can be fun- and regarding- to try a different style of activity (like the SMASH Fit For Life workouts!).

Tip #2 - Change Up Your Workout Time

Personally, I work out after breakfast in the morning (thankfully my schedule allows it) and I love it. Depending on your personal schedule, perhaps you can switch up your workout time?

A lot of people leave their workouts until the end of the day. Which makes sense from a scheduling perspective.

However, what about trying a morning workout? Perhaps a shorter one than normal if time is an issue. Here's a 10-MINUTE workout routine you can rock.

It may take some getting used to getting up early, but it can be really energizing to get up, rock a workout, and be done/feel accomplished for the day!

Not only does this change up your workout a bit but you may notice your energy levels change to accommodate the switch.

Tabatas are an awesome way to keep workouts quick and still effective when working out first thing in the morning.

But truthfully, there are some really fun and effective 10-15 minute workouts that are ideal for mornings! Not only are they fast but they’ll definitely get the blood pumping for the rest of the day.

You can have free WEEKLY workouts emailed right to you with videos if you sign up to my workout list below.

Tip #3 - Make A New Playlist- multiple ones

Don’t just listen to the same old workout songs- switch it up! Putting some genuine effort into a new playlist can be really effective when it comes to gym motivation.

And don’t just make one, make a couple that you can cycle through to keep you uplifted and inspired.

I have a super upbeat playlist specifically for runs because it literally keeps me going.

I don't use the same playlist for my strength workouts. For me, I need a bit harder music when it comes to heavy lifts- find out what works for you and tap into that. Music can be super powerful!

Or, binge out on motivational quotes. Sometimes quotes and sayings really help you dig deep. Here are a few of my favorite sayings that I scrawl out on the mirrors in my studio!

Tip #4 - Buy New Workout Clothes

This is perhaps vain- but it works! Sometimes all you need to boost your gym motivation is to feel super awesome in some new gear (here are some fun gifts for workout junkies like ourselves!). A great pair of workout pants, new shoes, etc might just be what you need to get excited to break them in!

Personally, I get all excited whenever I buy new workout pants. It’s super silly, but it’s really fun to play in new tights.

These fitness gifts make for some great ideas!

    Tip #5 - Find A Workout Buddy

Everyone is different when it comes to working out but having a buddy can really help!

Not only will you have someone to hold you accountable when it comes to staying consistent, but social time can be fun too! Having someone to meet up with, sweat with, and chat with can be a great tool in keeping you motivated.

Can't meet up in person? Work out together via zoom! Or, hop onto follow-along workouts so that it feels like you're right there with an instructor.

I personally prefer to workout alone but once a week I get together with a girlfriend for a quick workout. We chat, bitch, sweat, and have a great time. Not only do I get in a workout, but I also get to hang out with my girlfriend for a bit of self-care.

    Tip #7 - Take A Class

Okay, so you may not naturally be a “class person”. But you can’t deny that there is something motivating about group fitness classes!

It could be the uplifting, loud music or the mob mentality but joining a fitness class can definitely be something to look forward to- and keep you hooked coming back!

I personally don’t like teaching fitness classes as I’m just not that upbeat kind of trainer. But I adore going to them! I like the feel of being with like-minded people and getting all pumped up.

Tip #8 - Write Your Goals Down & Keep Them In Mind

Find your "why" and make it bloody potent. Saying "I want to lose 10lbs" isn't strong enough. Focus on how your life will change if you do. Why is that number important to you.

It sounds corny, but it works.

My goals stem from something different: I work out to stay sane. I am a more patient mom on the days I'm physically active and that's insanely important to me. '

I also want to always be able to keep up with the girls. To run, climb, and play. I never want to say "I can't".

Lastly, they're in the gym with me every day and I don't want to let them down. THEY are my fitness motivation and I would do anything for them. That's a pretty big why.

    Tip #9 - Just Do A 5-Minute Warm-Up

This is my personal workout motivation hack! On days I'm not feeling it, I focus on just the first five minutes. The warm-up. By the time I'm warmed up I always follow through.

Here's more about how and why to warm up.

Remember, the hardest part of working out is getting started. This applies to any goal and any fitness level. You will always feel better after you move your body.

So, focusing on just warming up normally means you're not going to quit right after. Below are a few 5-minute warm ups to get you going.

    • Upper body warm up
    • Lower Body warm up

Tip #10 - Shorten Your Workouts

Are you dreading your workouts because of the time it takes from your day? Shorten them! There is no one perfect way to get fit or achieve a goal. If time is your limiting factor, fix it.

Make use of a tabata workout, EMOM workouts, or even maximize your time with 5 minute workouts that help you re-energize and get strong.

There's not a rule that says workouts need to be a specific duration. Rock what you can mama. It's okay to switch it up.

Feeling stuck? Challenge yourself to 1 month of daily 5 minute workouts.

    GRAB THE BUNDLE

To stay fit and active year-round isn’t always easy. Even the best of us fitness junkies get lazy when it comes to workouts.

This is why these fitness motivation tips can be so helpful. Even if you don’t have immediate goals, staying consistent is key to staying healthy, and working out is a great stress release.

So, find an activity you love, stay one step ahead of your motivation, and go rock it!

    Stay fit mamas xx
