Ingredients You Need
One of the perks of this Holiday-inspired smoothie recipe is that it doesn’t contain bananas!
Though bananas do wonders to make a smoothie creamy, it’s nice to switch up your ingredients every once in a while (learn more about how to build the best smoothie!)
Pomegranate Arils: this protein smoothie uses the actual arils instead of pomegranate juice (just like this pomegranate watermelon drink).. These arils are rich in fiber and antioxidants. All of which you’re getting by using the seeds instead of concentrated juice.
Coconut milk: this is what helps make the smoothie creamy in addition to adding some healthy fats. Make sure to use canned coconut milk (the white not the water!) for best results (this is actually one of my crucial pantry staples for a gluten-free diet).
Homemade hemp milk: homemade hemp milk is another ingredient that helps with the texture of the smoothie. It’s ultra-creamy and by making your own you reduce your intake of excess sugars, carcinogenic oils, and random additives.
Honey: pomegranate arils aren’t very sweet. So the addition of honey helps boost the flavor of the recipe. Opt for raw honey and enjoy the anti-bacterial nature of it too!
Collagen powder: the cleanest protein you’ll find. Perfect Supplements collagen powder is sourced from grass-fed cows. It’s an ideal way to get more protein into your diet and a clean option for kids.
Optional: if you want to stretch the smoothie further, add in some fresh or frozen strawberries to give it more of a berry flavor.

How To Make A Pomegranate Smoothie
First, you’ll need to either purchase pomegranate seeds or remove them yourself from the pomegranate (this is how I remove the pomegranate seeds. Works every time!).
- Add all the ingredients into a high powdered blender
- Process on high for 2-3 minutes until everything is combined
- Pour into a tall glass and top with your favorite add-ons

Important Teaching Tips
Every blender is unique in how well it processes ingredients. Pomegranate seeds can be tricky. I use a Vitamix and need to blend for about one minute.
If you have a less powerful blender, you need to process the smoothie longer so that it comes out creamy and not chunky.
Adding some berries is a great way to stretch the smoothie. Opt for a ½ cup of frozen fruit (strawberries are best to maintain the color of the smoothie). If doing this, you’ll want to add in ¼ cup of water. With these additions, the recipe makes one super large smoothie or two smaller ones.
In a pinch, a quality pomegranate juice will work in place of the arils!
Choosing A Collagen Powder
Though protein powder will work in this pomegranate smoothie recipe, the one you choose will affect both the texture and the flavor of the smoothie (learn more about choosing the BEST protein powder for your goals).
The reason this protein smoothie uses collagen is that it’s a clean form of protein.
Collagen is a beneficial part of bone broth and is wonderful for your hair, skin, and nails.
Learn more about collagen and why you may want to boost your intake. However, unlike bone broth, it doesn’t taste like well, bone broth.
Similarly, collagen powder is odorless and flavorless. Plus, if ethically sourced is one of the purest forms of protein you can give to your kids!
I grab my collagen from Perfect Supplements and while I love their big tub of powder, I love the individual packets even more!
I find collagen the easiest way to boost protein in smoothies, vegan yogurts, oatmeal, or any other dish. It blends and mixes well and there are zero flavors to it. Plus, Perfect Supplements sources their collagen from pasture-raised (grass-fed) cows. So, I trust it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pomegranate Smoothies
Pomegranate seeds (called arils) can be blended into a smoothie. They’re an easy way to make your smoothie recipe vibrant as well as take in some additional antioxidants. However, you’ll need a powerful blender like a Vitamix to ensure the arils are fully mixed into the smoothie and no texture from them remains.
In a pomegranate smoothie, berries tend to create an ideal flavor. Opt for fresh or frozen raspberries or strawberries to maintain the vibrant color of pomegranates.
Though pomegranate juice will still have nutrients, it has normally been processed or watered down. Thus, consuming the arils will always be more potent health-wise.

My blender isn't great so I had to blend a bit longer, but it was worth it! I loved the slight nuttiness of the fresh arils compared to store-bought pomegranate juice. I will try with strawberries next.
