Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, calendula is a secret weapon for your skin. It helps soothe, repair, and cleanse all in one go. That’s why it’s the base of this homemade face toner.

This recipe uses calendula tea and witch hazel as its base, both of which feel amazing on your face- just like this DIY face toner with aloe.

You’ll be using this homemade toner as part of your skin routine (followed by whipped tallow face cream of course) in no time.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

Easy: You only need a handful of ingredients and no major kitchen skills for the calendula toner to come together.

Soothing: Between the calendula and the witch hazel, the toner is refreshing but also healing.

Versatile: With a few simple tweaks, it’s really easy to customize the toner and you don’t even need essential oils.

    Ingredients and Substitutions

Below is a quick shot of everything you need for the homemade face toner to come together.

Know that if you don’t have apple cider vinegar you can use only witch hazel, the toner will still work. Likewise, you don’t have to use actual calendula flowers. It makes it more potent but you can just use water.

And though essential oils help perk up your day, you don’t need them. They’re completely optional.

    Expert Tips To Make It

Store the face toner in a cool dry place. Or, in the summer months store it in the fridge. I do this with my green tea face mist and it makes it even more refreshing when you spritz it on.

How To Make DIY Face Toner

Step 1: Boil your calendula flowers and tea in water and let sit for 10 minutes. Strain and let cool.

Step 2: Add the essential oils to the witch hazel.

Mason jar with oil and dried calendula flowers in it.

Step 3: Mix all the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake before using.

    How To Use It

Spritz some of the homemade face toner onto a cotton pad and rub it onto your face in a circular motion. Likewise, you can spritz your face and then rub.

Follow it up with your favorite face cream or oil moisturizer.

    Essential Oil Options

You can use any blend of essential oils you want for the homemade face toner, they also work nicely in DIY leave in conditioner too. Below are a few favorites for scent blends and healing.

    • Lavender + frankincense
    • Geranium + lemon
    • Lemon + citrus
    • Copaiba + geranium + clary sage
