These "kitchen sink", no sugar toddler muffins have a little bit of everything healthy in them! Made with real fruit, healthy fats, and in bite-size form, these healthy toddler muffins are perfect for little hands.

Likewise, this toddler muffins recipe is light, not too sweet, and loaded with healthy toddler ingredients (one of them being one of the foods I think every toddler should have in their diet as a Certified Nutrition Coach)

It’s rare that we run out of bulk ingredients in my house. I practically live at the bulk barn (I keep telling them to implement some sort of frequent flyer rewards but it’s a no-go so far!). Thus my cupboards are full of half-full jars and bags of random bulk ingredients.

The other day we were getting dangerously low on prepped muffins (we only had four!) so I wanted to whip some up. Unfortunately, I only had random ingredients… so I made random muffins!

Indeed, this "kitchen sink" toddler muffins recipe is made with all-natural, simple ingredients. They're loaded with healthy fats and they're bite-sized, perfect for toddler hands!

Why You'll Love The Sugar Free Toddler Muffins

A toddler muffin recipe that is based on all the leftover stuff from the fridge, this one will soon become a staple- along with these 3 ingredient banana oatmeal muffins.

Most moms agree that it can be tricky to find healthy snacks for their toddlers. I used the baby-led weaning method but did it with a real-food diet. Thus, items like healthy toddler muffins were a must.

    These no sugar toddler muffins

    • use fruit to keep them sweet (no sweeteners, no even maple syrup!)
    • are soft enough for super little ones to squish to eat
    • contain lots of healthy fats for brain development and fuel
    • are allergy-friendly

    How Sweet Are The Muffins?

To be honest, not very. While no sugar toddler muffins are date and banana-based, they don't come out very sweet. This is done on purpose as I personally believe that taste buds are developed in the years under three. Thus, consistently feeding toddlers sugary snacks alters their palate in a negative way.

Considering this, using natural sweeteners (like fruits) is a great way to add some flavor to the healthy toddler muffins without sacrificing anything.

    How To Store Them

These no sugar toddler muffins taste best when stored on the counter at room temperature. Also, given that they're vegan muffins they won't go bad if left out a few days.

However, the shelf life will be shorter than if stored in the fridge. The fridge tends to make them a bit more "dense" but still perfect for toddlers.

And of course, you can freeze them. Nonetheless, keep in mind that you'll want to let the muffin sit out to thaw before giving it to your toddler!

Though, I can't deny that the healthy toddler muffins work as a teether when frozen 😉

What Size Muffin Tin Should I Use?

That's up to you! These no sugar toddler muffins can be made in a regular size muffin tin and just portioned a bit smaller (about the size of an ice cream scoop- they don't expand too much). Or, you can use a mini muffin tin.

That said, with the mini muffin tin, I highly suggest using muffin liners (silicone is my favorite). Otherwise, it can make the healthy toddler's muffins challenging to get out- even if you spray down the pan.

    How To Make The Recipe

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

If you haven’t already, soak the dates in warm water for twenty minutes, reserving two tablespoons of the water.

In a blender, blend the dates and the water until a chunky paste forms.

Dates blended into a paste in the blender

Add in the banana, applesauce, and nectarine and blend until mostly combined, leaving a few chunks.

Melt the coconut oil in the microwave.

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, almond meal, baking powders, and chia seeds.

Add in the fruit mixture from the blender. Begin mixing until everything is coated. Finally, fold in the shredded coconut.

Line a muffin tin with silicone cups and use and ice cream scoop to portion out the batter. Then, using a fork press down slightly into the mold.

Bake for twelve minutes, rotate the pan, and bake another eight minutes.

Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for thirty minutes.

    Makes 12 muffins.
