Citrus Bliss Diy Lip Balm

Keep your lips silky, smooth, and nourished with this easy citrus lip balm recipe! This DIY lip balm recipe requires only three main ingredients and can even be made without essential oils. Learning how to make lip balm helps you save money and keep your lips chemical-free.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 1 day 25 minutes
Servings 10 tubes

  • 1 tbsp shae butter
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp beeswax
  • 2 strips orange peel 4 inches long
  • 2 strips lemon peel four inches long
  • 6 drops orange or citrus essential oil optional in place of peel
  • 6 drops lemon essential oil optional in place of peel

  1. Combine all ingredients except essential oils into a double boiler and heat until everything is liquid and mixed. This takes roughly six minutes but I leave mine going for ten to better infuse the rinds.

  2. While this is boiling, set up your lip chap tubes and funnel. Have everything ready because you don't have a lot of time to pour before the mixture starts to harden.

  3. Remove from the double boiler. With a small knife or fork remove the rinds and whisk in essential oil.

  4. Moving quickly, pour the mixture into each individual tube slowly making sure to stop about a drop from the top.

  5. Let the tubes cool on the counter for one hour, place the tops on them and let them sit for twenty-four hours.

Recipe Notes

Reminder: if using essential oils in place of the peels, do not use this lip chap out in the sun.
