Most on the go snacks, even the healthy ones contain little to no vegetables or greens. Actually, lots o them contain processed oils and god dose of sweetener. There are lots that use healthy ingredients as the base (nuts, seeds and fruits are all amazingly healthy) but it is nice to have a nutrient boosting snack on hand!
Enter these superfood protein balls.
These healthy power balls may look a little.. GREEN but it’s because they’re full of awesome nutrients!
Have you ever used a plant based protein powder before? While I love whey protein for its flavor and blending abilities and I can’t deny that vegan protein powders have a higher nutritional content.
I’ve definitely tried a few vegan protein powders in my day but the two I use most are the traditional Vega or one of my new favorites: the Perfect Plant Protein from perfect supplements (photos were done with Vega.. hence the green color!)
One thing to keep in mind with any vegan protein powder is that the taste is a bit different. I used to be a hardcore whey protein junkie, when I made the switch to a vegan protein powder (to reduce my overall dairy consumption- read a few tips on reducing dairy here) it was a bit of a rough go.
It’s been a while since I made the switch and my taste buds have adapted to the difference flavor. But I still remember the initial taste (which is very different from the sweetness of whey!) and I like to warn others haha
One of the reasons I love vegan protein powder is that they not just full of protein but other awesome superfoods, nutrients and vegetables! Depending on your protein, vegan powders can get extremely “boosted”!
Not only does this help remove some dairy from your day but it also gives you a boost of many more nutrients.
And these superfood protein balls definitely have some awesome nutrients in addition to healthy fats and protein!
Having mini protein snacks in the house is awesome from my mom perspective. Not only do I almost always have something quick to grab but I also love knowing that there’s a little bit of extra nutrition added in my superfood protein balls than there is in regular store bought bars.
They’ll help keep you full, fueled and much less stressed when you grab one running out the door.

How To Make The Healthy Protein Balls
Place the dates in warm water for twenty minutes and allow to soften.
Once softened, drain and place in a powerful blender. Blend to combine and until mostly smooth. Making a date “paste”. You will need a tamper or to stop and scrape the sides down. Use 1 tablespoon of water if absolutely necessary.
In a large bowl, combine oats, protein powder, coconut, chia seeds and walnuts. Mix.
Add in the brown rice syrup and honey and start to combine the ingredients.
Add in the date paste.
Add in the almond milk and mix until everything looks wet.
Finally, fold in the cranberries and mix until combined.
Using your hands, rolls the mixture into small balls (about one inch in diameter) and place on a tray lined with parchment paper (Tip: rubbing coconut oil onto your hand prior to doing this makes less of the mixture stick to your hands).
Place the tray into the freezer to set.
Makes 18 balls
