Strawberry Banana Steel Cut Oats Recipe – DF/GF/V
Tasty, filling and healthy breakfasts are a must if you have kids (like these awesome pancakes!). While I fully support the “quick and easy” route, you simply can’t expect kids to lean on a breakfast of marshmallows. But that doesn’t mean your breakfast has to be bland. This strawberry banana steel cut oat recipe has everything you need to rev up your system, stay full and rock the day- plus, it’s allergy friendly!
Having a steel cut oats recipe on hand is pretty much crucial when it comes to a healthy breakfast. They’re higher in fiber and protein per serving than regular oatmeal and they have a sticky chewy texture which makes a nice variation. Personally, I love that they’re filling and fueling before a big day and are pumped full of healthy nutrients.
It’s not easy getting a healthy breakfast on the table in the mornings as a mom. Trust me, i’m with you. And while pop tarts are easy, they’re also not exactly nutrient filled nor will they help your littles focus at school.
In my experience, having a balanced breakfast means less tantrums, more focus, more productivity and just a better morning. While it definitely takes a bit longer to sit down and scarf a bowl of oatmeal, it’s worth it.
That said, if life is too hectic, save this allergy friendly recipe for weekends when you have a bit more time and instead, rock these make-ahead breakfasts instead to keep life simple!
To make this steel cut oats recipe a bit faster for a busy morning, I personally cook the oats the night before and throw them in the fridge. Then in the morning, I simply reheat and top with all the yummy things!
I personally like to stick with Bob’s Red mill steel cut oats because you can guarantee that’s they’re gluten free.
This strawberry banana bowl is one of my favorites breakfasts because it’s so tasty (I’m pretty sure strawberry banana is a necessary life combo!). Between the texture of the oats and the almond butter added, this bowl is deliciously creamy before you even add anything to it.
What your grandma preached to you was true: oatmeal in the morning will stick to your insides and keep you full 😀 Having a bowl of oats in the morning gives kids (and us mamas too!) some necessary fuel before the crazy. And once the oats are made you can customize them however you like (see the video below to make them sundae style!).
The other perk is that this breakfast recipe is processed sugar free- win! The last thing we need in the morning is excess sugar as it really only confirms a crash mid morning. Sticking to all natural forms of sugar instead is the best way to go.
So make your mornings count, get yourself (and the family) fueled by adding a steel cut oats recipe into the mix. The bananas keep it sweet, the texture is hearty and the toppings make it seem like dessert. It’s worth the few minutes extra prep time 😉
