- Made in just five minutes
- A great way to indulge a craving without getting too sugar high
- No vanilla protein powder needed
Ingredients You’ll Need
The ingredients for protein cookie dough are pretty simple and you’ll probably already have them on hand if you have a well-stocked gluten-free pantry. And the best part? There's no protein powder required!
Collagen: used in place of protein powder for this cookie dough recipe. Collagen is the cleanest source of protein and it blends well (no chalky texture!).
Natural peanut butter: make sure to use natural peanut butter that is semi-fresh (the hard stuff on the bottom of the jar won’t work!). Natural peanut butter blends into the ingredients better. Almond butter will work as well just provide a different flavor.
Almond flour: this is the bulk of the protein cookie dough. Almond flour gives the protein cookie dough recipe a "baked goods" feel. Learn the difference between almond flour and ground almonds and then choose whichever one works for you.
Vanilla: a quality vanilla extract goes a long way in flavor.
Maple syrup: a hint of smokey sweetness for the cookie dough.
Chocolate chip: make sure to use allergy-friendly chocolate chips as needed. And grab the mini ones so that they’re better distributed throughout the cookie dough.
Dairy-free butter: any non-dairy butter will work for edible cookie dough. For anyone who tolerates goat's butter that works too.

Important Teaching Tips
If you mix the chocolate chips in at the same time as the butter, they’re more likely to melt. Make sure to grab dairy-free, gluten-free chocolate chips if you need them also.
This chocolate chip cookie dough is best eaten as soon as you make it. Though it can sit on the counter for a bit.
Placing it in the fridge causes it to become too hard. Portion it into bowls as soon as you make it and enjoy!
Crucial Products
The protein cookie dough recipe uses collagen powder in place of vegan vanilla protein powder.
Collagen is a beneficial part of bone broth and is wonderful for your hair, skin, and nails. Learn more about collagen and why you may want to boost your intake. However, unlike bone broth, it doesn’t taste like well, bone broth.
Similarly, collagen powder is odorless and flavorless.
I grab my collagen from Perfect Supplements and while I love their big tub of powder, I love the individual packets even more!
I find collagen the easiest way to boost protein in smoothies, vegan yogurts, oatmeal, or any other dish. It blends and mixes well and there are zero flavors to it. Plus, Perfect Supplements sources their collagen from pasture-raised (grass-fed) cows. So, I trust it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Protein Cookie Dough
Storing the protein cookie dough causes it to become hard and crumbly. The cookie dough is best eaten freshly made.
Though you may be able to bake the cookie dough, it doesn’t really have anything in it to make cookies rise or hold together and is best eaten raw.
Some protein powder brands will work in place of collagen powder for edible cookie dough. Vegan protein powder tends to absorb more liquid though which would dry out the cookie dough. You may have to add a splash of almond milk to make it work.
How To Make It Festive
This edible cookie dough is a really fun one for gatherings or movie night! You can even put it in oversized shot glasses with little spoons.
Top make it more festive, add in crushed candy canes or Christmas sprinkles in place of the chocolate chips!
Same flavor but a fun twist!
