How I Grew My Pinterest & Got Started With Affiliate Marketing
If you’ve been around the blogging block for more than a month now, you’ll know how important it is to have a working knowledge of Pinterest and you may be wondering how you’ll ever make any money from your efforts! That was definitely me. While blogging definitely requires a lot of work and consistency I was so overwhelmed as to where to start and what would give me the best turnover for my efforts.
The truth is, when I first started blogging I didn’t even have a personal Pinterest account let alone know how to run one for traffic. Seriously.
Pinterest quite literally mind boggled me and I naively assumed that I just needed my images to have text and to pin a lot each day and it would pay off. HA!
As for affiliate marketing.. I knew of it. I knew I needed to monetize to grow my income. But, like Pinterest, the steps were a bit hazy. The newbie in me just got some ads up and let them do their thing. Sigh.
The truth is, when you’re just getting started in the blogging world, everything is pretty overwhelming. You’re not quite sure the exact steps needed to both grow and make a profit from your blog. You spend countless hours working without actually making much progress numbers wise and you don’t have an unlimited budget to put into courses because it’s not yet your full time job.
Sound about right?
So with that in mind, I wanted to share with you what helped me. Or more so, who.

I had followed Caroline from Swaddles and Bottles for a few months before I got enough courage to contact her for some help. And that’s when things started to look up.
Caroline helped walk me through the steps I needed to take to grow my Pinterest following. Specific step by step instructions on what to do and when. It was magnificent. She was in the middle of writing her e-book Pinning For Pageviews and I was lucky enough to be her lab rat.
While I assumed I would learn the basics from her (what pins should look like, when to pin, how to maximize your pins) I also gained way more knowledge than I expected.
Through her book Pinning For Pageviews I learned that I didn’t need millions of followers to drive traffic to my blog. I learned I only need more people to see my pins and how to make that happen.
In her e-book she shares all sorts of little tips and tricks that I greedily gobbled up and implemented as fast as I could.
I contacted Caroline in the beginning of April with only a couple hundred followers (I think around 200) and 8100 average daily viewers… in the month. Not exactly hitting it big.
After lot of hard work, and genuinely implementing the tips in the book I am now sitting around 2100 followers and 13000 daily views.
The truth is, this book was my first big step to really starting grow. It taught me all the basics as well as a lot of the small, hidden tricks you never really think of. For only $34 it’s a pretty simple and sure fire way to really start to “win” on Pinterest instead of just winging it.

Now on to the fun stuff: how to make money from your blog?
The truth it.. I hate affiliate marketing. And even while I’m honing my skills, I still dislike it. But I also enjoy making an income so.. I digress 😛
I think, like most new bloggers, I believed that ads would be enough and that simply inserting an Amazon link into my blog posts would garner me money.
I won’t be ashamed to admit that that hasn’t been the case!
The world of monetizing is overwhelming at best. But like everything Caroline does, her E-book “Master Affiliate Marketing” breaks everything down into practical, easy to implement steps to get you started and then secret tips to really help you grow.
The reason I actually fell in love with this e-book wasn’t because it promised me lots of money. But because Caroline is honest when she writes that setting up your blog to monetize takes effort and a solid plan. You don’t need an insane amount of pageviews to succeed but you do need consistent traffic and to a game plan to make them want to purchase from you,
One of the biggest affiliates is of course Amazon, and while placing the links on your site is great, chances are you don’t see much of an income from them (I sure didn’t!). And after reading through the e-book, one of the lessons I learned was that I really and truly knew nothing about how to navigate and promote through Amazon.
Thankfully, that has since changed and work has begun!
The e-book Master Affiliate Marketing definitely has an insane amount of information in it. But what I appreciated the most was that Caroline addresses difference avenues of income and how to maximize each one. She breaks everything down into actionable steps and at the end of the e-book you feel slightly less overwhelmed about your tasks ahead. She makes it both practical and possible to see a re-occurring income source.
I can’t stress enough how much I have learned from both of these e-books. The knowledge is invaluable. Not because of the basic steps but because of the small tidbits of information and tricks that Caroline has learned along the way in the course of growing her blog.
As a new blogger, you normally don’t have a lot of passive income to be spending on courses and development- and you don’t need it! The cost of these e-books is affordable and the information is useful. You’ll gain practical, applicable knowledge and your blog (and income) will grow.
If you’re stuck, overwhelmed and truly want to grow as a professional blogger, check out either one of the e-books (Pinning For Pageviews or Master Affiliate Marketing). Stop guessing and start planning!
