Healthy Smoothies Roundup
Making time for healthy meals can be tough. Actually, it can seem pretty impossible when you’re just starting out! Which is why I’m a fan of quick, easy, portable & healthy smoothies. Healthy smoothies make it easy to eat whole, nourishing foods, and when done right- they taste delicious!

Outside of my favorite protein shakes. It took me a long time to appreciate all that is “a healthy smoothie”. Part of the problem was that most smoothies tend to be made up of just fruits. While this tastes delicious, it doesn’t really do much for keeping you full or boosting your nutrient intake.
But green smoothies seemed weird to me. I’m pretty sure my initial thought was “drinking blended spinach is freaking disgusting”. And truth be told, I’ve had some horrific concoctions over the years (though I’m Dutch so I think them anyways!). There are a few secrets to making healthy smoothies (check out how to build a better green shake) but the biggest goal for me is this: cram as many healthy foods and super foods into the green smoothie as possible.
Truly, that’s my goal.
Now-a-days, I have a green smoothie each and every day (shared with Baby Bear of course!), not because I “have to” but because they taste great and boost my energy.
The thing with healthy eating is that it can be difficult to actually eat all of your nutrients. Even if you made the most nutrient dense salad in the world it would still take a while to actually consume it- and most people just don’t have the time.
Which is why smoothies kick butt!

Below are some of my favorite smoothie “boosters” outside of the normal fruit & veg I add to my daily shakes.
Hemp Hearts these little seeds are full of healthy fats (specifically omega three fatty acids) and come with a good amount of digestible protein as well.
Flaxseeds A small and mighty seed these are a favorite fat source of mine because again, they contain omega three fatty acids which help reduce inflammation.
Chlorella Known to help “detox” this super food also contains a lot of iron and magnesium which many people don’t get enough of.
Matcha Another super food and utterly packed with antioxidants! Matcha has been said to do everything from relax the mind, detox the body and boost metabolism.
Cacao This is the biggest super food I use in the house because, well, chocolate! Cacao powder has more calcium than cow’s milk and gives everything a chocolate flavor!
Protein Powder This one is debatable for some but I do like to boost my protein intake. I vary between whey and plant based proteins depending on what I’m up to that day. I do like to use boosted plant based proteins (like vega) to get even more nutrients into my system.
Note: all of these health boosting ingredients can be purchased through my favorite retailer Well.ca– and the best part is that they offer free shipping!
There are a zillion ways to enjoy green smoothies and boost your health profile. If you’re new to the game though, experimenting on your own may seem a bit overwhelming (trust me, I’ve been there!). and some blends do come out gross (in color and taste) when you don’t pay attention (I drink those out of a colored cup haha).
So below is a roundup of ten healthy smoothie favorites. They taste delicious, are easy to make (because you just blend them!) and have enough nutrients in them to really boost your overall nutrition.
I also included smoothie bowls in this roundup because you’re basically eating ice cream! If you haven’t made a smoothie bowl before, I suggest you do… they’re delicious!
