What To Look For In A Healthy Mocktail
Replacing alcohol with a glass full of sugar isn't really a healthy swap. This is why these mocktails focus on:
- Using real fruit or herbs
- Minimizing concentrated fruit juice
- Avoiding simple syrup
- Light, refreshing, healthy
They’re the perfect blend of flavor and real food-based ingredients.
These non-alcoholic mocktails look gorgeous so you feel as if you fit in. and of course, they’re refreshing and cool (Note: learn how to scale back sugar and not hate your life!).
When To Go Alcohol-Free
While the obvious answer is “anytime you don’t want to drink”, here’s a little secret: another great time to use these mocktail recipes is when you’re currently pregnant but not yet telling anyone!
These easy mocktail recipes look indulgent.
They also look alcohol-based. It’s easy to make people believe you’re indulging with them when you’re not.
Which is what I did for the first four months of my pregnancy.
Similarly, these recipes work beautifully for work gatherings in which you don't wish to drink (learn more about mindful drinking). As well as anyone looking to take part in dry January.
Of course, something like an iced coffee is a great alternative too (defac if you're scaling back on caffeine!). Learn how to make iced coffee without a machine and have a coffee shop quality drink but feel food in the fact that you can add in your own sweetener and flavor.
Tips To Making The Best Mocktails
Part of the reason people opt for non-alcoholic cocktails and not just water is that they want to feel included.
Essentially this means that they want their drink to not only taste great but look it too!
And so, embrace that!
- Garnish your drink with one of the ingredients
- Place the mocktail in a glass you typically wouldn’t use
- A little umbrella never hurt anyone
If you’re going to rock a low sugar mocktail, do it up!
Keep in mind that these recipes are best made to order and not stored in the fridge.
Fun hack: when you are ready to have some alcohol again, give this white tea shot a go. It's crazy refreshing and you truly only need one 😉
The Best Mocktail For Summer : Raspberry Lemonade
This is the recipe I used the most during both of my pregnancies. It’s light, simple and so damn perfect on a sunny day.
Plus, it uses ingredients you probably already have.
- ½ lemon, freshly juiced
- 5 raspberries
- 1 can original perrier
- 5 drops stevia (or ½ teaspoon cane sugar)
- Ice
- Raspberries for garnish
Muddle the raspberries into the bottom of a glass. Add in the lemon juice, ice, and top with Perrier. Add in the stevia and stir to combine. Garnish with raspberries
