It just doesn’t seem like summer if you don’t have a chilled, beautiful drink in your hand. However, if you’re trying to cut back on the booze (or if you’re pregnant!) hitting it hard every single sunny day can pose a problem.

By the end of my pregnancy, I began avoiding gatherings altogether. Since I love to be uber pregnant during the hottest months (check out how to stay cool on a summer pregnancy) I found I missed out on a lot of social drinking.

Which isn’t the end of the world, but it got to the point I was frustrated Af. I wanted a drink. I was sick of watching others enjoy themselves and I felt left out.

That’s how these pregnancy mocktails came about!

And even now, when it’s super hot out and I want something cold, I don’t always want alcohol. This means that these mocktail recipes get used- a lot!

Easy Mocktail Recipes

While I love the idea of scaling back on booze, I dislike the idea of replacing a boozy drink with a cup of sugar. It defeats the purpose to me (learn how to scale back sugar and not hate your life!).

Which means that my goals for mocktail recipes include:

  • Using real fruit or herbs
  • Minimizing concentrated fruit juice
  • Avoiding simple syrup
  • Light, refreshing, healthy

Which is exactly what these mocktail recipes are! They’re the perfect blend of flavor and real food-based ingredients. They’re gorgeous so you feel as if you fit in. and of course, they’re refreshing and cool.

When To Use The Mocktail Recipes

While the obvious answer is “anytime you don’t want to drink”, here’s a little secret: another great time to use these mocktail recipes is when you’re currently pregnant but not yet telling anyone!

Seriously. These easy mocktail recipes look indulgent. They also look alcohol-based. It’s easy to make people believe you’re indulging with them when you’re not. Which is what I did for the first four months of my pregnancy.

I know people would have realized I wasn’t drinking and so I faked it ?

How To Use The Healthy Mocktail Recipes

Part of the reason people opt for healthy mocktails and not just water is that they want to feel included. Fancy. And so, embrace that!

  • Garnish your drink with one of the ingredients
  • Place the mocktail in a glass you typically wouldn’t use
  • A little umbrella never hurt anyone

If you’re going to rock healthy mocktails, do it up!

My Favorite Mocktail Recipe

This is the recipe I used the most during both of my pregnancies. It’s light, simple and so damn perfect on a sunny day. Plus, it uses ingredients you probably already have.

  • 1/2 lemon, freshly juiced
  • 5 raspberries
  • 1 can original perrier
  • 5 drops stevia (or 1/2 teaspoon cane sugar)
  • Ice
  • Raspberries for garnish

Muddle the raspberries into the bottom of a glass. Add in the lemon juice, ice, and top with Perrier. Add in the stevia and stir to combine. Garnish with raspberries
