"I strive to make healthy eating and home workouts PRACTICAL for busy moms to help them increase energy, keep up with their kids, and feel confident in the skin they’re in".

Hi, I'm Shelby, and WELCOME to Fit As A Mama Bear!

I’m a Canadian mama to three beautiful girls (though I’m probably biased), a workout lover, and a classic, though totally lazy, foodie.

In the real world, I’m a  Certified Strength And Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Nutrition Coach and have been actively coaching women for over ten years.

Though I've been training for such a long time, everything in my world changed when  became a mom.

The truth is, when you're a mom, things get hectic FAST. And true to nature, we tend to put ourselves last (there's just to many to-do's!).

I was frustrated, mad at the world, and confused on how the days just seemed to pass without me actually DOING any of the things.

Once I started putting myself first, the game changed. And some days that looked like just 5 minutes and other days longer.

There's no perfect system when it comes to making fitness and healthy food work as a busy mom.

But here's the secret: Showing Up Counts.

If you’re a brand or blogger looking to work with me, here’s more information about me and how we can work together.

My Mission

I want to make eating quality food and learning to strength train at home practical for busy moms. I provide easy, dairy-free, gluten-free, high-protein recipes, at home effective workouts and fitness tips to help busy moms feel confident enough (and have the energy!) to keep up and play with their kids.

Core Values

    • Drink your water
    • Keep it simple

About Me & My Personal Journey

What seems like ages ago, I was a restaurant manager, smoker, and fast food junkie. I started my journey to health about ten years ago but it wasn't a crazy big process. No major “moments” over here.

Though I began working out prior to getting pregnant, the new body I was in postpartum was a whole other thing and there was a new learning curve to my training.

I learned even more so how important it was to be STRONG and not just in a calorie deficit for weight loss.

With my second pregnancy, I started noticing a lot of bloat and headaches when I consumed dairy. I eliminated it for the pregnancy but assumed it was just "hormones".

It turns out it wasn't.

Removing dairy and gluten from my diet alleviated a lot of bloat, stabbing pains, and killer headaches. And though it's sometimes a struggle, I've never looked back.

It wasn't until m third pregnancy that I felt like I actually had my crap together (as much as possible for a mom anyways). And that feeling was bliss.

Both in my workouts and in my nutrition, I finally felt good.

Two Fun Facts: I am the crazy cat lady in the neighborhood and feed all the strays (I get them fixed too!). I am also a Harry Potter dork and have read the books... cough cough... six times through.

The fitness world is a MESS of information. And because of this, it's scary as heck for moms to get started.

I strive to make fitness practical for busy moms. To help you reap the benefits of more strength, less back pain, and an increased metabolism... at from their home (this is what the SMASH workouts are all about).

I am a firm believer that fitness should be fun! Dreading & despising your workouts won't get you the results you're looking for. Instead, experiment with different workouts, laugh, and enjoy the journey - it's a hard balance so don't take it too seriously!

There are a lot of resources in the Fitness Tips section to help start you on your journey. I also share specific workouts on my youtube channel.

And if you're ready to start but feeling totally overwhelmed, download the 5-Minute Fitness Challenge and COMMIT.

More strength, more energy, and more confidence in just five minutes per day.

Hopefully, you can find the tips, tricks, and advice you're looking for but if not... contact me! I truly always love hearing from readers.

Who doesn't love tasty food? And as a nutrition coach, food is one of my absolute passions! I really do live to eat. But I also believe that food is fuel and thus I aim to create nutritious meals.

My recipes are dairy-free and gluten-free with minimally processed sugar.

I focus on easy weeknight meals for busy moms as well as high-protein snacks to keep your energy high.

You can even download this free 4-day meal plan to help you gain ENERGY while getting started with healthy choices.

Buuuttt I'm also a chocolate lover at heart. So, you will see a lot of indulgent, chocolate-based dairy and gluten-free desserts too!

The recipes are geared towards busy moms and kids to keep us all healthy and fueled.
