Are you sick of eating the same old thing?

It’s time to branch out and include more variety in your diet! And what better way to do that than with a bright, uplifting, dragon fruit smoothie bowl?!

On its own, dragon fruit isn’t overly sweet. But as a Certified Nutrition Coach, I love that it's loaded with unique healthy nutrients. Pair it with pineapple and raspberries though and you’ll feel like you're on a tropical vacation.

And since this smoothie bowl comes in with 28 grams of protein it makes for the perfect fuel. Learn more about the benefits of a high protein diet and why you want to amp it up!

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

Easy to make: With just a handful of ingredients, all you have to do is blend them up!

Healthy: This dragon fruit protein smoothie is naturally dairy-free, gluten-free, paleo, and whole30 approved.

Uplifting: It's a fun one to customize and has an uplifting flavor for lackluster days.

    Ingredients You’ll Need

Outside of the smoothie bowl toppings, you don’t need much for this dragon fruit smoothie bowl to come together.

Fresh dragon fruit: make sure to use fresh and ripe dragon fruit as it blends better and is sweeter (learn how to cut a dragon fruit). You can use frozen dragon fruit but you'd need to add more liquid.

Frozen pineapple: this is a great way to thicken the protein smoothie bowl. Frozen mango chunks also works.

Raspberries: give it its fun, bright color for a pick-me-up.

Collagen powder: one of the cleanest protein sources. It’s collagen powder that makes this smoothie bowl high in protein and a great way to start the day.

Coconut milk use full-fat coconut milk to keep the dragonfruit smoothie bowl rich and ultra-creamy

    How To Make It

    1. Pop all the ingredients into a high-powered blender adding the dragon fruit first.
    2. Blend for 1-2 minutes until combined and creamy. You may need to use a tamper.
    3. Pour into a big bowl and top with your favorites.

    Important Teaching Tips

Most smoothie bowls use frozen bananas to make them thick. In an effort to have some options, this dragon fruit protein smoothie uses pineapple instead. However, know that you can sub it out if you wish.

Frozen mango works great in place of pineapple. Likewise, frozen strawberries replace raspberries well.

If using strawberries know that the color of the smoothie bowl will be lighter.

This dragon fruit smoothie bowl makes 1 large or two smaller servings. Since the only liquid is coconut milk, if you want to scale back on calories for a large serving, split the coconut in half with almond milk.

    Smoothie Bowl Toppings

We love adding fresh fruit or something like honey almond granola to this dragon fruit protein smoothie. Kiwis or berries are our favorites.

However, the following options are great too:

    • Crunchy almond granola
    • Protein granola
    • Dairy-free chocolate ganache
    • Toasted coconut flakes

    Choosing Collagen Powder

It’s no surprise that this smoothie bowl is made with collagen powder!

All the protein without the bloat.

I use collagen powder for amping up protein and boosting gut health.

Learn about the difference between collagen and bone broth as how to increase protein intake.

Honestly, as a busy mom collagen powder just makes it easy to eat more protein and not feel like I’m living off chicken and eggs.

And more protein means more energy, more natural beauty, and feeling your BEST.

I grab my collagen from Perfect Supplements because they source their collagen from pasture-raised (grass-fed) cows. So, I trust it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowls

    Are dragon fruit smoothies healthy?

Smoothie bowls are a great way to take in lots of antioxidants and nutrients at once. However, you want to make sure that they include a protein in them. Otherwise, you won’t be full long. This dragon fruit smoothie bowl has 28 grams of protein which makes it a great way to kick off the morning.

How do you peel dragon fruit for a smoothie?

Instead of pealing the dragon fruit, slice it lengthwise. Then, use a melon baller to scoop out the flesh.

What’s the secret to thick protein smoothie bowls?

You need to make sure that you’re using some type of frozen fruit, mangos, frozen bananas, and pineapple work best. From there, only add as much liquid as absolutely necessary. Otherwise, your smoothie bowl will be too thin. Finally, blend a little lower intensity-wise and scrape if needed.
