How To Have A Healthy Pregnancy
Don’t over complicate being healthy while pregnant. Instead, focus on the simple things you can do each and every day. Being pregnant means it’s time to take things a bit slower, keep them a bit more practical settle back to enjoy those baby kicks.
Most moms only want the best for their babes and that begins the moment we find out we’re pregnant! Unfortunately, like any other goal, there’s a lot of conflicting advice or poor advice that’s shoved down your throat.
My goal is to make having a being healthy while pregnant a little bit simpler for you.
Healthy Pregnancy Meals
One of the biggest things you have control over is what you eat (well, outside of the first-trimester ha-ha). Don’t diet or follow any restrictions too seriously, this isn’t the time for that.
Instead, focus on the following parts of pregnancy food:
- Healthy fats like nuts, avocados etc.
- Protein
- Nutrient-dense, colorful options
The babe is growing, and you need to give it fuel. Fats are satiating and help brain development. Protein will keep you full and helps the babe grow in every which way. And colorful food is loaded with nutrients.
However, that doesn’t mean you’re not going to down a pint of ice cream while pregnant. you are.
Just like any other time in life, make the primary focus on simple, whole foods for your healthy pregnancy meals, and indulge outside of that. These were my favorite pregnancy snacks but I was also a crazy chocolate addict for both pregnancies!
Having a healthy pregnancy isn’t about control or limitations. You are pregnant and your body is doing some weird sh*t. Embrace that, keep your healthy pregnancy food simple and you’ll be fine
Pregnancy Fitness
Having a fit pregnancy is a hot topic right now but I think society gets it wrong and fails pregnant ladies. Being pregnant is not the time to:
- Go hard or go home
- Push push push
- Try to stay lean
If you want to have a healthy pregnancy, focus on moving your body and being active (walking, doing what feels good) and if you’re able to (read: not vomiting or crazy exhausted for all trimesters) focus on strengthening your hips and doing some band work for your posture.
There’s a lot of benefits to movement and exercise while pregnant.
These two things are perfect for pregnancy fitness because they help you the most postpartum. When it comes to a fit pregnancy the goals should be:
- Movement that feels good
- Strengthening the glutes to help with postpartum
- Reducing discomforts while pregnant
Notice there is no “belly only tip” in there. You are growing, you are supposed to be growing. And how your body grows while pregnant cannot be dictated by pregnancy fitness.
Have a healthy pregnancy by keeping it simple with fitness, focusing on reducing pregnancy discomforts and enjoying movement.
Your Reminder to Enjoy Being Pregnant
With some much information and expectations out there, this is your quick reminder to ignore it all. Being pregnant is different for everyone, and you’ll experience it differently between siblings too. There’s no one right way to be pregnant.
So, embrace it, enjoy it, and do what you need to feel comfortable.
