An easy DIY recipe, this homemade, honey whipped body butter with beeswax has only five ingredients. Thus, it's a simple DIY beauty recipe and makes a thoughtful homemade spa gift. This homemade whipped body butter is a great way to keep your legs smooth and nourish your skin during the cooler months. Whip up a batch of the body butter with beeswax and use it all winter long!
Homemade body butter with beeswax is easily one of my go-to products. In fact, DIY lotions were the first thing I began making when I started changing over my beauty products. They're simple, smell great, and insanely moisturizing for your skin!
Considering this, once I had my first babe, you had better believe that baby body butter and diy baby wipes were on the list too!
This honey whipped body butter with beeswax (like my DIY grapefruit body butter) is full of natural ingredients that will help your skin stay soft and smooth.
Why Use Honey In Homemade Whipped Body Butter?
Honey has helped improve and heal skin, inflammation, and scaring- making it a great addition to a DIY lotion! Furthermore, it helps with tissue regeneration and it's healing properties. Not to mention, the amazing scent makes it ideal to add to a homemade body butter with beeswax.
The other ingredients in the honey whipped body butter recipe with beeswax all promote silky, soft, and smooth skin. This means that this homemade body butter recipe is amazing for the entire body but specifically the legs and tummy. In contrast, be careful using it on your face however as it is oil-based.
How To Use Body Butter
Like most homemade body butters, once you apply the whipped body butter wait a few minutes before putting clothes on so that your skin has time to absorb the oils. Not only will this keep your skin soft but it prevents your clothes from being ruined too!
Likewise, don't forget to check out this "do's and don'ts" list when making homemade body butter recipes.
If you're looking for a light, homemade body butter with beeswax that will nourish and repair your skin, this Whipped Honey Body butter with lotion is perfect. It smells simple and homey and the ingredients contain healing properties. It will keep your skin hydrated and soft.
Is It Sticky?
This is a question I get a lot. When you're first putting the homemade whipped body butter on, yes it is a bit tacky. However, the stickiness does go away as the homemade body butter absorbs into the skin.
I personally use this whipped body butter with beeswax after I shower (so that it is best absorbed into the skin). The tackiness is already gone by the time I'm ready to get dressed.
How Does It Harden?
Much of this depends on the environment you live in. If stored in a cool cupboard, the honey whipped body butter does harden after a few days.
However, once it is on your skin (especially after a warm shower or bath) the homemade body butter begins to melt again.
Much of this is due to the coconut oil in the body butter recipe. Specifically, the colder coconut oil is the harder it becomes and vice versa.

This homemade honey whipped body butter with beeswax technically contains no preservatives (learn more about preservatives for homemade beauty products). However, in my experience so long as no water gets into the lotion (water causes mold), the homemade body butter will last a few months.
Truthfully, I've never had a DIY lotion recipe spoil. That said, much of it is about being careful about water.

How To Make It
In a double boiler or glass jar combine all ingredients.
Heat the ingredients over medium until everything is melted (about 12-15 minutes). Then, whisk often to combine. You want to ensure that everything is fully melted.
Let sit on the counter until the mixture hardens (roughly six hours but up to twenty-four). The honey will look like it has separated to the bottom of the container.
Once harden, whip the body butter for two to three minutes until it is combined and looks light and fluffy.
Transfer it to a mason jar with a tight-fitting lid.
A fun note: I say "double-boiler" in the recipe so that someone doesn't accidentally use a jar and crack it in the water. That said, I personally just use mason jars and place them directly into a pot of boiling water (about two inches worth), just as you would when canning. Keep it simple mamas 😉

Looks perfect! I absolutely need to make it. I used to make some butters long time ago, but stopped for a while. You inspired me again! 😉

my teenage daughter is reading this over my shoulder and informing me that we MUST make everything! I guess a trip to the craft store is in the cards for me this week. Thanks for the recipes.

This just looks and sounds absolutely amazing. I never would have thought about making it myself like this.
fitasamamabear
It's a fun one!
Natalie
Your measures conflict - article is 1.5 tbsp each of beeswax and honey but printable recipe lists 5 tbsp of each.
Which is correct?
fitasamamabear
Thanks for the catch Natalie! It's 1.5 - I'm changing it now 🙂

Unable to use coconut oil. What is a non clogging oil close to coconut oil I could use to replace it and have same texture?
fitasamamabear
Hrm, almond oil may work but it could change the texture as coconut oil is what helps harden it before whipping. I'd try that or apricot kernal!
Jessica
How much does this recipe make? I'm getting ready to make several jars to give as gifts. And have one for myself, lol!
fitasamamabear
That particular recipe only makes that one jar (the small ones!) You're so sweet to give them as gifts, I love receiving diy products!
Heidi
Have you used any other butters? I have a mango butter I’d like to sub for the coconut butter..
Heidi
I meant as a replacement for Shea butter ??♀️
fitasamamabear
Haha I do that all the time! Mango should be fine! I haven't used it in a few years (which I should because it's silky) but it should be okay. it's normally slightly harder than shae so I'd just say to err on the small side of a tablespoon so the mixture doesn't get too hard. If you make it- will you let me know how the mango works? I'll make a note for others in the same spot 🙂
Michelle
What’s the shelf life?
fitasamamabear
To be honest I'm not sure. Most people will say around six-eight weeks. In my personal experience, as long as you don't get water into it (from dipping wet hands in to grab some) I've had mine keep fine for six months easy.
Melissa
I made a similar body butter but found it to be very sticky. How is this in regards to its stickiness? Do you have any tips or tricks? Mine didn’t include beeswax.
Thanks for any insight you can offer.
fitasamamabear
There is definitely some stick! This used to drive me batsh*t at first lol this one has a slight stick but the amount of honey is pretty low. I find that after a moment it's not too bad as the oils help it absorb. But there is still definitely some stick. To be completely honest I prefer a basic body butter recipe like this one: https://fitasamamabear.com/orange-grapefruit-body-butter/ My mom, however, swears by the honey making dry skin better but the stick after a shower still bugs me lol
fitasamamabear
The stick! Oh my lord it used to drive me batsh*t lol. This recipe isn't TOO bad as the amount of honey is minimal. i find it absorbs fairly quickly with the oils. However, there is still a stick. personally, I prefer a body butter like this one (https://fitasamamabear.com/orange-grapefruit-body-butter/ ) because getting out the shower and making my legs sticky still gets me going sometimes lol. My mom, however, swears that the honey helps her dry legs so to each their own. Hope that helps!
Jaimie Orfanos
I just made this and it is absolutely sticky and unusable due to the honey.
fitasamamabear
Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you. What kind of honey did you use? Could it be that it wasn't melted down fully, this would cause t not to blend into the oils well. There is some stickiness as mentioned in the blog but it absorbs into the skin pretty easily.

I have tried your recipe and absolutely loved how it was once we whipped it and put it into jars. Unfortunately after a couple of days mine has re-set so hard you virtually have to scrape it out with a spoon. We Emptied the jars into a bowl and re whipped it to a beautiful consistency only to have the same problem a few days later.
We were Just wondering if anybody else has had this issue and what they did to stop it happening?
fitasamamabear
I have definitely had this issue with ANY whipped lotion. The beeswax hardens hard once chilled but if you scale back the beeswax it's super oily. I have found that while it's still firm, if it's kept in a warmer place (versus a cool dark cabinet) it's MUCH easier to work with and it still melts on your skin.
I have also omitted the whipping step (so melt all the ingredients and just let sit on the counter) and if I remember correctly (a few years back now) that worked better for storing it but the texture is slightly stickier initially.
Vanessa
hey love, your beeswax link is not working 🙁
fitasamamabear
You're amazing- thanks for the heads up! Fixing it now.
