Ingredients You'll Need
Peanut butter: kind of a crucial ingredient for a peanut butter protein shake! Make sure to use natural peanut butter to avoid any uncessecary oils and sugars. It's up to you if you want to rock crunchy or smooth. Make sure to use actual peanut butter (and not peanut butter powder) for the balls.
Banana: frozen banana is what makes this chocolate smoothie ultra cream.y Though you can use fresh, frozen will work better.
Puffed rice: add some low-calorie crunch to the smoothie. These are the base of the peanut butter bombs which is definitely not something you want to skip!
Maple syrup: you only need a little bit to sweeten up this smoothie so don't go overboard.
Cacao powder: giving the smoothie a nutrient and chocolate boost! Cacao powder is chocolate in its raw form which means it's actually good for you (learn more about the benefits of cacao powder)
Honey: used to bind the peanut butter balls together. Unfortunately, this cannot be subbed out.
Collagen powder: instead of protein powder, this chocolate smoothie uses collagen powder to boost protein intake.
Almond milk: the peanut butter protein shake specifies almond milk, however, any non-dairy milk will work in its place!
How To Make The Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie
- Make the crunch balls by mixing together the peanut butter, puffed rice, and honey. Place in the freezer.
- Add the remaining ingredients to a high-powdered blender and blend until compltely smooth.
- Portion out the smoothie and top each glass with a couple of crunch balls!

Crucial Products You Need For The Protein Shake
To keep the protein intake high and balance out the sugar rush, this peanut butter protein shake uses collagen powder!
Collagen is a beneficial part of bone broth and is wonderful for your hair, skin, and nails. Learn more about collagen and why you may want to boost your intake. However, unlike bone broth, it doesn't take like well, bone broth.
Similarily, collagen powder is odorless and flavorless. Plus, if ethically sourced one of the purest forms of protein you can give to your kids! I grab my collagen from Perfect Supplements and while I love their big tub of powder, I love the individual packets even more!
I find collagen the easiest way to boost protein in smoothies, vegan yogurts, oatmeal, or any other dish. it blends and mixes well and there's zero flavor to it. Plus, Perfect Supplements sources its collagen from pasture-raised (grass-fed) cows. So, I trust it.
Grab the collagen packets and use code mamabear10 to save some money.
A dose of collagen is easily the best way to make this chocolate peanut butter bomb smoothie fueling as well as indulgent.
Important Teaching Tips
The crunch balls are made with just three ingredients. Though the chocolate peanut butter protein shake is delicious without them, it is so much better with them!
The balls add an extra bit of crunch as well as sweetness to the smoothie.
Substitutions
Cacao powder is much more nutrient dense but in its place, cocoa powder works just fine.
Even though this is a peanut butter protein shake, if you need to make it nut-free you can always sub in Sub Butter in its place.
Likewise, you can use homemade hemp milk instead of almond milk.
In place of actual nut butter, peanut butter powder will work for the base of the smoothie. However, peanut butter powder won't work for the balls.
Protein Powder
As mentioned, this peanut butter protein shake uses collagen powder in place of protein powder.Â
However, that doesn't mean you can't add some in!
Before you do, learn more about how to choose a protein powder for your goals. Each protein powder will absorb liquid differently and so your choice will affect the taste and flavor of the peanut butter protein shake.
When choosing a flavor, you can really use any. Chocolate protein powder or peanut butter protein powder would blend beautifully. However, the protein shake is flavorful on its own and so vanilla protein powder will work as well.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie
Equipment
Ingredients
- For The Balls
- â…› cup Natural Peanut Butter
- 1.5 tbs honey
- ¼ cup rice puffs
- 2 tbs rice puffs
- For The Smoothie
- 1 banana frozen
- 6-8 ice cubes
- 3 tbs raw cacao powder
- 1 tbs peanut butter
- 1 cup almond milk
- 3 tbs pure maple syrup
- â…› cup collagen powder
Instructions
- Heat the honey and peanut butter in a small pot or the microwave until just melted. Heating too much will cause the peanut butter to burn.
- Pour the puffs into the mixture. Mix the puffs into the peanut butter until everything is coated. You'll have one big, sticky, ball.
- Use your hands to portion and roll the mixture into small balls. Place the balls on a baking sheet or parchment paper in the freezer to set for twenty minutes.
- While the balls are freezing, place all the ingredients for the shake into a blender. Blend on high until fully combined.
- Pour the smoothie into mason jars and top with the peanut butter balls.
